He proceeds to read a message his son had prepared before his death.
“Hello everyone, Technoblade here. If you see that, I’m dead. So let’s sit down and have one last talk,” his father says.
“My real name is Alex,” the message continues, revealing only his first name and an inside joke after many years of anonymity that users thought might be called Dave. His videos, which have been viewed millions of times, did not show his face. Instead, he used an avatar – a pig with a crown – and his voice was known to many as he battled, built and joked with others while playing the popular game Minecraft.
The video included photos of Alex with friends and in a hospital gown, finally giving Technoblade fans a chance to get a glimpse of his face.
In the posthumous message, he thanked fans for buying his merchandise and subscriptions, and joked, “My siblings go to college, well if they want to — I don’t want to put peer pressure on them from dead brothers.”
“It’s all from me. Thank you all for supporting my content over the years. If I had 100 lives left I would choose Technoblade all over again because those were the happiest years of my life.”
“I love you guys,” added the message. “Technoblade out.”
His father told viewers that Alex wanted to record a longer message, but “we waited too long” and he was running out of time. He adds that his son found it difficult to concentrate as his health deteriorated.
Alex found the strength to write the farewell on a laptop on his deathbed about eight hours before his death, his father recalls through tears.
“He was the most amazing kid anyone could ever ask for,” he said. “You meant a lot to him.”
The video, which had been viewed more than 18 million times as of early Friday, sparked a wave of grief from his followers and fellow players online. Some took videos of their reaction to the news; others have posted messages on social media.
“You will always be a legend” tweeted YouTuber and Twitch streamer Jschlatt.
“I had the opportunity to express my admiration and respect for Technoblade, not only for the massive impact he had on all of us, but for maintaining his incredible sense of humor even in the darkest of moments. I will miss him so much. Rest in peace,” tweeted the YouTube gamer named Quackity.

Technoblade announced to its subscribers in August that he had been diagnosed with cancer after revealing arm pain in a video titled Where I’ve Been. He never specified the type of cancer, but he had raised money with the Sarcoma Foundation of America, which supports people with a rare cancer that can start in tissue structures, usually in the limbs.
In a statement posted at the end of the YouTube farewell video and shared widely on social media, signed by “Techno’s mother,” she praised her son’s “good-natured humility,” “self-deprecating wit,” and “sportsmanship” while playing. Minecraft.”
The video game sees players creating and breaking apart different types of blocks in three-dimensional worlds while exploring, building, surviving, and sometimes repelling mobs of moving creatures.
She thanked everyone around the world who supported her son and said he “revered and respected his fans and colleagues”. She added that he “didn’t complain” about his battle with stage four cancer, instead “continued to use his famed strategic mind to try and beat what he thought was almost impossible.”
“My son’s courage on this journey was a shining lesson for all of us who got to walk it with him,” she added.
