Maya Hawke says she wouldn’t exist if her mother, Uma Thurman, hadn’t made the decision to have an abortion in her late teens.
The 23-year-old actress spoke on the subject on Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show after the Supreme Court recently ruled Roe v. Wade had picked up.
“Both of my parents’ lives would have been completely derailed if they hadn’t had access to safe and legal health care — basic health care,” she told host Jimmy Fallon.

Thurman shares Maya and son Levon Roan, 20, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke, 51. She is also mother to daughter Luna from her relationship with French financier Arpad Busson.
May was referring to a “beautiful essay” Thurman, 52, wrote in The Washington Post late last year, in which she spoke out against Texas’ banning abortions past the six-week mark.
In the op-ed, the pulp fiction star revealed her “darkest secret” was getting an abortion as a teenager after having sex with a “much older man.”
Thurman – who has since given birth to three children – admitted the “tough” decision gave her the opportunity to “grow up and become the mom she is today.”

Maya went on to state that “wealthy people will always be able to have an abortion” and that those in less privileged positions benefit most from the Roe v. Wade will be affected.
“So many people will not only be unable to achieve their dreams because of this ruling this week, but will actually lose their lives and be insecure.”
The Stranger Things star ended her speech with a clearly worded message to the US Supreme Court.
“And I just wanted to say that, like, fuck the Supreme Court,” Maya said in a bit of a whisper as she turned to Fallon to see if it was okay for her to swear on the air.

With the presenter’s permission, Maya addressed the studio audience and exclaimed, “Oh, f*** the Supreme Court! Yes, rock on!’
The actress’ appearance on The Tonight Show was designed to promote the current season of her hit Netflix series Stranger Things, which will launch a new series of episodes on July 1.
Maya is just one of many celebrities who have died following the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. to overrule Wade after a Conservative majority vote of 6-3 last Friday.

The landmark 1973 ruling established a constitutional right to abortion. But after 49 years, that right is now being decided by states.
“The Constitution does not grant a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected officials.
“Guided by history and tradition, which constitute the essential components of the nation’s concept of ordered liberty, the Court finds that the Fourteenth Amendment clearly fails to protect the right to abortion,” conservative Justice Samuel Alito’s decision said.
Abortion was automatically banned in 18 US states once Roe v. Wade was overturned thanks to specially designed “trigger laws” and historic bans that were automatically reinstated after Friday’s ruling.
