Gosh, it's Gundam - This Week in Games

Ah yes, once again it’s my job to write about video games in the shadow of unimaginably cruel nonsense happening in the world around us. It’s pretty hard, not only because the shadow of terrible things weighs heavily in your head, but it also feels extremely insensitive to write about “funny” stuff while the people out there are suffering. I try to tell myself that if reading this column makes people a little happier in the face of misery, I’m doing a good thing, but maybe I’m just denying it. I do not know. shit man

So, in my attempt to ward off existential anxiety, how about we start with that Sega/Atlus News? Sega only surprisingly dropped Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Megamix+ on Steam, making it the first official PC version of the long-running rhythm game series. It’s quite good! You can read ANN’s review by Jean-Karlo here and my review on GameSpot here.

On Thursday, Atlus shared a short announcement video detailing their plans for North America persona 25th anniversary celebrations. Alongside showcasing a range of new merchandise (including, for some bizarre reason, a $500 persona-turntable) and promoting a streaming live concert (which you can even get tickets for outside of Japan, as our mascot hosts note), they also announced a range of live events and venues to take part in the celebration will. Unfortunately, pretty much all of them are based in Southern California, including one large joint Sega/Atlus stood by anime exhibition. Maybe if we’re lucky a few other big cities in North America will get something later this year because persona The fandom is certainly not all about a huge metropolitan area.

But perhaps more importantly – we have a new one individual 5 Game! Don’t get too excited though, because these phantom thieves want to plunder your wallet Persona 5 for roles.

Ok regardless of your feelings about a individual 5 Slot machine, we all agree the title is amazing right? Given that this is more of a video slot than the Japanese common (and most importantly legal) Pachislot machines, I suspect this is geared more towards the international casino market. Wants 21-and-over persona Fans can resist the fascination of slot machines? (Hopefully.)

IT’S DRAGON QUEST DAY AND YUJI HORII HAS SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

May 27thth marks the date on which the original dragon quest was introduced in Japan back in 1986, making it a quasi-official gamer’s holiday. To celebrate, Square Enix released a new video with serial maestro Yuji Horii. And what would an anniversary be without some news? Here is the youtube Video you may want to watch with subtitles on if you don’t speak Japanese:

Start: Dragon Quest Builder was released on mobile platforms! You can download it now on iOS or Android! If you haven’t played them builders series, you should definitely try them: they are very entertaining and charming spins for construction games with this signature dragon quest personality through and through.

We also have a new trailer for the spinoff treasure hunt adventure Dragon Quest Treasures. No platforms announced yet, but at least Switch and PS4 seem likely.

While Dragon Quest XII still in development (and likely to be for quite a while), Horii assures us that we’ll have plenty of mucus-crunching goosebumps to help us make ends meet while we wait for more information. So hey, uh, about it Dragon Quest X offline western release…

DAMN THAT’S A LOT GUNDAM

On Thursday afternoon Bandai-Namco Games deliver the online gundam Game Fest, a short stream featuring a series of announcements related to video game adaptations of the Mobile Suit Gundam Franchise. The video, complete with an announcer broadcasting great “5th grade class tutorial videos” vibes, can be viewed in its entirety here:

We’ll start with an in-depth look at what’s to come SD Gundam battle alliance, a huge multigundam-Universal crossover action game with an adorable lead role super deformed Versions of all your favorite mobile suits. The video goes into gameplay details quite extensively, so I probably don’t need to repeat them here, but it looks like a surprisingly solid piece of fanservice gundam megafans. Starting August 25, you can take these Doozybot wannabes on adventures on PC and consoles

The next is gundam evolutionthe gundam– FPS themed hero shooter that had a PC beta test last month. I heard that a lot of people really enjoyed what they played in this beta, which could bode well for the future of the game. But if you missed the PC beta test, don’t worry: a console beta will be launched soon, which you can sign up for at this link.

Finally, after some updates on the ongoing free-to-play title gundam combat mission 2there is a brand new announcement: SD Gundam Eternal G generation. This is a mobile strategy RPG SD Gundam Units for iOS and Android and includes the entire multiple gundam universes. It’s still fairly early in development so details are scarce, but we’ll likely learn more in the coming months.

FIGHTING NEWS AROUND: HAVE THE GOOD NEWS

Combo Breaker, one of the larger non-EVO US fighting game tournaments, is happening this weekend, so we’ll likely get some announcements there. New Guilty Gear struts Characters? More street fighter 6 Details? Maybe more looks at Riot Games’ new fighting game? Could well happen! But even if it isn’t, Combo Breaker is one of the most entertaining tournaments to watch, especially the downright insane Mystery Tournament and Character Auction Tournaments. I highly recommend checking the official schedule and streaming whatever catches your interest.

But before Combo Breaker arrives, we have fighting game news! It’s been a year since launch, and Guilty Gear struts gets a big balance patch on June 10th, which the developers also like Arc system works say will introduce some pretty major overhauls for the entire cast. Which means Happy Chaos is likely to get some nerfs, to the relief of many. ASW also announced a beta for cross-platform play sometime this summer. If you want to check out the presentation that has more details and information about the new DLC Guilty Gear Strive Starter Edition – Here you can watch the recording of the live stream:

Meanwhile a cult fighting game favourite Them’s Fightin’ Herds coming to consoles. This formerly PC-only fighting game started out as My little pony: friendship is magic fangame before Hasbro Lawyers issued a cease and desist letter, forcing the developers to replace the ponies with legally distinct four-legged fighters. But that setback didn’t hurt the development team much – they worked hard on the game for years and ended up creating a surprisingly solid fighter with smooth rollback netcode (and, according to the trailer, cross-platform matches). for the online game. If you’re curious, I recommend checking it out when it comes out on consoles.

JoJo’s bizarre adventure: All-Star Fight R has a release date: September 2nd. Hey, it’s my birthday! Thanks, Bacco! The announcement is accompanied by a new trailer, which you can watch here:

Finally we have some skull girl News! skull girl is the fighting game that manages to keep kicking no matter what, and its placement in EVO this year has brought even more attention to this good game. skull girl 2nd encore, the latest version of the game, was announced later this year for the Xbox One and Xbox Series platforms. A new character is also in the works: the Arm Cannon with Black Dahlia. Watch their development trailer here:

On a stranger note, long time skull girl The character Valentine is getting a small design change: all the crosses on her nurses’ outfits are being changed to be less…crucified and more pointed. The reason? Probably the quarrelsome nature of the Red Cross organization, which angrily protects its distinctive iconography. Not a big deal, really – it’s not a big change, and I think the new design reflects her dual nurse-ninja nature that much better anyway.
