Jennifer Lawrence played her in the 2015 movie Joy, but now’s your best chance to live like the real Joy Mangano.
Mangano, the 66-year-old inventor best known for being the mastermind behind the self-wringing Miracle Mop — and, of course, for inspiring that film, for which Lawrence received an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win — has an approximate List is building 22,000-square-foot Long Island mansion for $20 million, its listing brokerage told The Post.
The Wall Street Journal broke the news of the listing, which sits in the hamlet of St. James on the north shore of Long Island — about halfway between New York City and the Hamptons. Should it be sold at this asking price, the property would set a record in St. James.
Dubbed Swan Manor, the three-building estate is spread over 22 acres overlooking Long Island Sound. The listing images show a stately gated residence — with features such as a two-story great room, two-story kitchen, and indoor pool — that has clearly been well-maintained during Mangano’s tenure.
“Swan Manor is the most complete, amenity-rich property I’ve seen on the Long Island Gold Coast,” Nest Seekers International’s Shawn Elliott – who shares the listing with his son and business partner Zach Elliott – told The Post. “The house is perfect for a large family as there are several apartments on the property. Its proximity to New York City also makes it a great corporate retreat. The feeling upon entering this home is one of love and joy, no pun intended, it is one of a kind.”
Mangano, who told the Journal she’s sold more than $3 billion worth of products on television thanks to her star status at QVC and the Home Shopping Network, also told the outlet she’s always dreamed of working in a “big Mansion” — and she even spent “millions and millions” of dollars renovating this 1917 one. She bought it in 2000 for $1.35 million, or about $2.31 million after adjusting for inflation.
“I’m a meticulously detailed person,” Mangano told the Journal. “Everything around me has to be perfect.”
It shows. The indoor pool pavilion also offers a whirlpool, large gym and sauna. Below, the finished basement has a wine cellar and tasting room. Also on the premises is a guest house with no fewer than three bedrooms, additional staff accommodation and a four car garage. The land also has a tennis court, pergola deck, patios and walkways made from imported Italian porcelain, and a rock garden waterfall, according to the listing. Additional images show a formal dining room with a fireplace, vaulted and beamed ceilings, and even space for a home office. There are also two conservatories and a massage room.
Her longtime owner of the house even benefited Mangano professionally. The multiple closets led to iterations of her velvet Huggable Hangers, which keep clothes from falling, according to the Journal. And that large kitchen inspired a collaboration with chef Todd English for ceramic non-stick cookware.
The listing of the estate serves to reduce the size. Mangano, CEO of the “CleanBoss” product line and executive producer of “America’s Big Deal” on USA Network, is a Long Island native — and was able to spend time with her children and grandchildren on the property in the early days of COVID. She’s not sure where she’ll end up after a sale.
Elliott added that potential buyers have an appetite for Long Island life.
“Long Island prices have risen over the past month as both sales and prices have been impacted by a continued lack of supply amid strong demand,” he told the Post.
