Actor Anthony Mackie delivers Lawrence University’s inaugural address

Anthony Mackie was the inaugural speaker for the class of 2022 at Lawrence University.

APPLETON — For the first time in four years, Lawrence University celebrated its graduation on Main Hall Green Sunday without rain or a pandemic changing plans.

And the nearly 350 members of the Class of 2022 and their loved ones were not only able to gather for the day of celebration, but were showered with words of wisdom from Lawrence Fehler, their peers, and a heroic opening speaker.

Anthony Mackie, who portrays Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, delivered an opening speech full of stories about his own life and inspiration for each graduate to write their own stories from that point forward.

They will bring change,” he said. “You now have the authority to dictate your path, not to have it dictated to you. Your story will be full of twists and turns.”
