Adele is open about how her canceled Las Vegas stay has affected her.
On Sunday, the singer spoke to BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, where she reflected on her last-minute decision to cancel her shows in Sin City earlier this year.
“I definitely felt like everyone was disappointed and I was devastated and scared to let them down,” the 34-year-old told host Lauren Laverne. “I thought I could pull it together and make it work, and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision.”
In January, the “Hello” actress announced she was rescheduling a 24-day residency in Las Vegas hours before it began, citing delays and a coronavirus illness among her crew. In a video message posted to social media, Adele said she was “gutted” and vowed to reschedule.

Adele stressed that the decision was not based on money. She said it was simply because the show wasn’t “good enough.”
“You can’t buy me, you can’t buy me for free,” she explained. “I’m not going to do a show just because I have to, or because people are going to be let down, or because we’re going to lose a lot of money.”
The star noted that the criticism she received following the cancellation at the end of January took its toll.
“I was a shell of a person for a few months,” she admitted. “I just had to wait and just grieve, I guess, just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal.”

When asked about the show’s status, the Grammy winner remarked, “Of course I’m working on it!”
“I won’t update you if I don’t have anything to update you on because that only leads to more disappointment,” Adele said.
The British artist, who released her fourth album in November, revealed during her appearance on The Graham Norton Show in February that her Las Vegas residency “is 100% happening this year.”
It has to happen this year because I have plans for next year,” she told the host. “Imagine if I had to cancel because I’m having a baby!”

Adele confirmed to Laverne her desire to have more children. She is already a mother to 9-year-old son Angelo, whom she shares with ex-husband Simon Konecki.
“I would definitely like to have a few more children,” Adele said. “It would be wonderful if we could do that. If not, I have Angelo. I just want to be happy.”
Adele revealed that motherhood has changed her “in every way”.
“Good, bad, weird — I love being a mom,” she said.

Adele, who is currently dating sports agent Rich Paul, was asked if their split was “tough”.
“It was, but it was never really difficult because we’re such good friends,” she explained. “Over my dead body, my child [is] having a messy divorce in his life… There are no problems and there weren’t any problems, so I think it was easier to make sure that didn’t happen. I’ve been blessed with him and he’s just the best. I definitely approached it all with grace and I think it really paid off.”
