Comics to Watch 2022: Jay Jurden, Rosebud Baker, Sheng Wang

diversity has named its 10 Comics to Watch for 2022. This year’s winners will be featured in the July 20 issue diversity and be honored at this year’s Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, taking place July 13-31 in Montreal. A panel and cocktail reception will be held on July 29th, followed by an exhibition on July 30th.

diversity presents the 10 Comics to Watch list since 2000 and includes names such as Tiffany Haddish, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt and Quinta Brunson.

The list consists of stand-up comedians, writers and content creators selected by a panel that includes the following members diversity Editors and those in the comedy community who scout, book, cast, and represent comics.

This year’s 10 comics to watch are:

Rosebud Baker – As the writer of Saturday Night Live, Baker’s special Rosebud Baker: Whiskey Fists is available on Comedy Central Digital and she will appear in the Netflix series That’s My Time With David Letterman.

JR De Guzman – Stand-up NBC winner De Guzman was a 2017 JFL New Face. He is currently on his JR De Guzman: An Evening theater tour and can be seen in The Comedy Lineup on Netflix. His comedy album Dual Citizen reached #1 on Billboard and iTunes.

Vanessa Gonzalez – Gonzalez is currently opening Chelsea Handler’s Vaccinated and Horny Tour and has appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden and The Garcias. Her comedy album My Birthday’s Tomorrow is now available on iTunes and Spotify.

Jay Jurden – Originally a contributor to The Problem With Jon Stewart on Apple TV+, Jurden has appeared on NBC’s The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and Comedy Central’s Featuring. His comedy album Jay Jurden Y’all debuted at #1 on iTunes.

Matteo Lane – Lane is developing a half-hour with Bob the Drag Queen inspired by her comic book series Kickass Drag Queen, which Hyperobject Industries and Unicorn Island are co-producing. He is also putting together a fall tour and a theater tour for 2023.

Claudia O’Doherty – The Australian comic previously appeared in Netflix’s ‘Love’ and the film ‘Trainwreck’ and can currently be seen stealing scenes from Peacock’s ‘Killing It’.

Atsuko Okatsuka – Okatsuka’s show The Intruder is touring through August and playing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She recently made her late night standup debut on The Late Late Show With James Corden and can be heard on the show Fairview.

Blair Soci – Socci hosts the podcast “Dear Owen Wilson” for iHeart Radio and lends her voice to Comedy Central’s animated series “Fairview” and the upcoming feature “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” for Adult Swim.

Moses Storm – After appearing in Last Comic Standing and Conan, this year featured Storm’s HBO Max comedy special, Trash White, which he wrote, designed, directed and directed.

Shenwang – A stand-up star on HBO’s 2 Dope Queens and writer on Fresh Off the Boat, Wang will be filming his first Netflix special this summer, which will be produced by Ali Wong.
