Daytime Emmys 2022 Winners List

The 49th annual Daytime Emmys returned to a live event at the venue on Friday night, and the news of the day – the fall of Roe v. Wade and the attack on women’s rights by a renegade Supreme Court – threatened to overshadow the event. But the two-hour show, hosted for the first time by Entertainment Tonight hosts Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner, got off to a smooth start at the Pasadena Convention Center.

Overall, CBS’s “The Young and the Restless” received the most Daytime Emmy nominations that year with 18, closely followed by ABC’s “General Hospital” with 17. Among outlets, syndicated fares earned the highest scoring with 48 nominations from various programming distributors , followed by two networks that top the list: ABC and CBS, both at 31. (Netflix followed at 27.)

Other notable highlights from this year include: The daytime drama category – which has shrunk since broadcasters scaled back series production – has grown to five nominees for the first time since 2014, thanks to the addition of the spin-off Days of Our Lives. . “Beyond Salem.”

Prior to this, the 49th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards were held on June 18th at the Pasadena Convention Center. “Kelly Clarkson” received five awards, while “Penguin Town” followed with three awards. Aside from syndication (with 10), Netflix was the big single-network winner, amassing nine total, spread across Penguin Town, Cat People, Headspace: Guide to Meditation, and You vs. Wild: Out Cold. Next was CBS and PBS with three each.

Also of note is that the final season of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” received a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing Team for a daytime nonfiction program during the Creative Arts Emmys. And in the first season, Judge Judy Sheindlin’s new series “Judy Justice” won IMDbTV (now Amazon Freevee) for legal/court broadcasts. (It also repeated the very first Daytime Emmy for IMDbTV/Freevee.).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 show was virtual and filmed at the homes of the host, presenters and winners. Last year, a pre-taped, scaled-down event was held in Burbank.

Meanwhile, this marks the first year under the agreement between the two major TV academies, in which several categories have been realigned to focus on genre rather than segments of the day, to improve eligibility between primetime (managed by the LA based TV Academy) and Daytime Emmys (administered by New York-based NATAS). It is also the first year that the children’s and family programming categories have been removed from both shows and moved to a new Children’s & Family Emmy Awards competition and ceremony, the first new Emmy show since 1979. (This event will be held at held in December.)
