After coming out, the star ended his relationship with then-wife Emma Portner.

The actor is currently believed to be single after they filed legal filings in a Manhattan court to dissolve her three-year marriage to 26-year-old professional dancer Emma in January 2021.

Emma “proudly” supported her partner’s decision to come out as transgender and later confirmed the couple had split before the news broke.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, Elliot and Emma revealed that they had in fact “broke up last summer” before the actor came out as transgender and decided to make the split official.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our split last summer,” the statement said. “We have the utmost respect for one another and remain close friends.”

Before releasing a statement, Emma and Elliot removed all pictures of each other from their respective Instagram accounts, which seemed to send a very clear message about the future of their marriage.

However, Elliot and Emma still follow each other on the social media app.

In a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Elliot spoke about how his life has “drastically improved” after the transition.

Elliot explained that he’s been reflecting on “very difficult times in my life, certain struggles and obstacles and all of that, and I think it really deepens your empathy when you finally get through it.”

“I think about the times in my life when I felt the most uncomfortable. Where I felt the most down, those were the times when I was the most angry. And I was the most unkind to myself or self righteous or any of those things. It has drastically improved my life,” Elliot said.

He added, “I’m hoping maybe people who have a problem with me could try to hear that and embrace that on some level.”

Seth asked them how they dealt with negative reactions to their transition, although Elliot said they wanted to focus on “the level of joy” they found extraordinary.

“What I want to focus on now and what has been so extraordinary is the level of joy that I feel, the level of presence that I feel, I feel in a way that I really, for a long time, didn’t think was possible would have.” said Eliot.

“That’s really what I focus on and embrace the most. But of course the moment can be overwhelming,” Elliot continued.

Adding the negativity, they added: “Unfortunately because we’re all on the same team here, you know if you’re trans, non-binary, gender-nonconforming CIS, we all have these expectations and these kinds of boundaries and limitations because of us, kind of the obsession.” of people with the binary and how we should all live our lives.

“It would be very special for me if we were all able to connect and talk about how alike we are throughout all of our travels,” they added.

Since his appearance, his character has also changed in Netflix’s Umbrella Academy.
