Mrs Miracle is a celebration of all things Marvel as it introduces audiences to Kamala Khan, a Muslim teenager who’s just as much of an Avengers superfan as the rest of us. The Disney+ premiere took Iman Vellani’s young hero to AvengerCon and provided references to 28 MCU heroes and villains, while also providing an oddly specific description Avengers: Endgame‘s last fight.
Since the Avengers’ fight for Earth against Thanos took place out of the public eye, the writers have always had a hard time explaining why the world was so aware of what had happened. The same questions have been asked before WandaVision when Jimmy Woo referenced Captain Marvel taking out Thanos fleet.
Happily, Mrs Miracle explains that this knowledge came Big Me Little Me: An Interview with Scott Lang – an appearance by Paul Rudd’s hero on an in-universe podcast. But as it turns out, the creators of the series originally came up with a different idea to explain why the world knows so much.
Ms. Marvel Producer Reveals Scrapped Avengers Retcon
During a recent interview with The Wrap, Mrs Miracle Executive producer Bisha K. Ali revealed her original plan as Kamala Khan was aware of the events Avengers: Endgame‘s last fight.
The premiere confirmed that ant man‘s Scott Lang appeared on a podcast that included a description of the events of the fight. But Ali originally suggested to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige that there was such a thing “Drones and a live stream of the battle of endgame,” an idea he quickly discarded:
“At some point, like in the early days before we expanded the creative team, I was like, ‘Kevin, what if there were drones and a live stream of the battle of ‘Endgame’?” And he said, ‘Bisha, no. ‘ I think there was no twitch streamer for the final fight of “Endgame?”. are we kidding I think I’ve lost my mind at this point, trying to solve this riddle. So it’s really been a big iterative journey. And it was something that was kind of changing and moving all the way through. And I think it must have been a Sana [Amanat, co-creator of the ‘Ms. Marvel’ [comics] Pitch to the end. Or it could even be – I actually have no idea where that idea came from. But when we sort of integrated it into the script, I thought it was perfect. It was characterful.”
The executive producer went on to share how the team went through it “A Million Rounds” to try to find out how Kamala and the rest of the world is informed about these events:
“I’ll be honest, I never take credit where it’s not due, it wasn’t my idea. That was something we went through a million rounds of like, like, how does it go? [Kamala] do you know things? Is it because everyone posts things on social media?”
Scott Lang: Viral internet sensation
The concept of Avengers: EndgameThe latest fight to be streamed live to the world sounds like a bit of nonsense for a number of reasons.
At the time of the battle, billions of people had just come back to life and the planet was in chaos. It’s hard to imagine anyone having the time to prepare the drones and gear for a live stream. Thanos’ attack on the Avengers compound also came as a surprise to everyone, and one would imagine the location of the team’s high-tech base is also a closely guarded secret.
The explanation offered in Mrs Miracle because how the world knows about the specific events of the Battle of Earth is much more logical and fun. ant man‘s Scott Lang is one of the funniest and most ordinary heroes in the MCU, so it’s easy to imagine him wanting to podcast to show off his heroic adventures to the world.
Hopefully, Big Me Little Me: An Interview with Scott Lang can play into Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in a way, since many fans are excited for it to become a reality. An impromptu in-character interview with Paul Rudd could make for a hilarious Disney+ special to promote the threequel ahead of its release next year.
Situations like these show why Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s role in the MCU is so important. His involvement and oversight of every project is why every MCU project can be connected the way it is. The thought of drones circling the Avengers as they battled for the planet and Tony Stark breathed his last breath sheds a little too much light on an incredibly tense sequence.
Mrs Miracle will undoubtedly provide many more references Avengers: Endgame and the rest of the MCU when it debuts its second installment Wednesday, June 15 exclusively on Disney+.
