Starring Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling The gray man making all the right noise ahead of its big release on July 22nd. Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, the film had a special screening in Los Angeles and social media was awash with positive reactions for the action filmmaker.
The Gray Man also stars Ana de Armas, Rege-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thorton and Dhanush. It follows a CIA agent on a global manhunt. The film is based on a book series by Mark Greaney and is said to have been made on a budget of $200 million.
Film critic Courtney Howard tweeted: “@Russo_Brother’ #TheGrayMan has relentless, well constructed action sequences. Battle of minds, bullets and brawn. Ryan Gosling & @ChrisEvans share excellent quick wits (and sleazebag facial hair!). Ana de Armas is badass and beautiful. Dhanush’s scenes are ruthless and sharp.”
Filmmaker and critic Jeff Ewing called The Gray Man Netflix’s best action offering yet. His tweet read: “Netflix’s #TheGrayMan is a solid action thriller (the streamer’s best yet) with great performances from Gosling, Evans and de Armas. The fight choreography and stunt work are excellent, to say the least. Overall a winner.”
Journalist Rachel Leishman specifically mentioned a sequence from The Gray Man. “At one point, Chris Evans calls Ryan Gosling a Ken doll and I pointed to the screen like the Leo meme. elsewhere, chris evans says it’s that time of night when the house lights come on and he grabs an ugly desperate chick to lick his wounds. I love #TheGrayMan.”
In another tweet, she added: “I mean @htranbui can attest to the fact that I did all this at a 10am screening of the Gray Man. It’s fun to watch movies with me.”
Dhanush plays an assassin in The Gray Man. His performance has received a thumbs-up so far, with many praising his performance in particular. Journalist Kirsten Acuna had good things to say about the Indian star. She wrote: “Seeing #TheGrayMan’s social embargo is lifted. I had a chance to see him last month, I loved Dhanush in this film. He gets the best fight scene in the movie. There’s one really clever change from the book with Evans and Gosling that I was really excited to see on screen. Ps – I asked the Russians about the casting of Dhanush but will wait to post after the film is released on Netflix as we are talking about spoilers!”
Several fans and celebrities in India also sent well wishes to the team, mainly Dhanush, for representing the country in such a big Hollywood project. TV presenter Dhivyadharshini tweeted: “D sirrrrrr can’t tell you how proud we are to see this. @dhanushkraja sirrrr massssssssss panreengaaaaaa America la. (ps: oru seat thalli irukra anda bridgerton hero whatsapp number kidaikuma?) #TheGrayMan”
Actor Ramya Subramanian also wants Dhanush. Her tweet read: “Charming @dhanushkraja officially wowing internationals with his wit is such a joy to watch! It’s time for #TheGrayMan and we couldn’t be prouder!”

However, film critic David Ehrlich had a different reaction to The Gray Man. He said the film had “boring action scenes.” His tweet read: “THE GRAY MAN is just 2 hours of Tom Clancy refusing to yell mindless shit like ‘get him dead’ between boring action scenes in beautiful locations, which all leads to the most hilarious, stupidest villain backstory ever.” I have ever seen unveiled. Red Notice almost made me nostalgic.”
In another tweet, David added, “Honestly, if the Russo brothers produce an Everything Everywhere All at Once every year, they can do as many goddamn gray men as they want. They could do a six-part spin-off series on Chris Evans Khakis, as far as I’m interested.” When a user asked him about Dhanush in particular, he wrote back, “Dhanush innocent.”
The gray man will be released first in theaters and later on Netflix.
