Kate Bush will save £1million if her hit Running Up That Hill climbs to the top of the charts 37 years after it was originally released – after starring in Stranger Things
Kate Bush is said to have cashed in more than £1million after her 1985 hit Running Up That Hill rocketed to the top of the charts last week.
The song has enjoyed a resurgence after being featured in the new series of Netflix sci-fi horror drama Stranger Things, with the track originally peaking at #3 on the charts when it was first released.
A source told The Sun: “Kate is on track to pay a seven-figure sum over her resurgence.
In the money: Kate Bush, 63, is said to be transferring more than £1million after her 1985 hit Running Up That Hill rocketed to the top of the charts last week (pictured in 1978)
“She owns all the publishing and licensing rights, and she wrote it – so almost all the money goes to her.
“Given the song’s traction, Kate will easily be raking in £250,000 a week and at this rate she’ll be laughing to the bank.”
The song receives nearly a million streams a day on Spotify and earns Kate, 63, around £250,000 a week, with the track on track to maintain its position at the top of the charts for a second straight week.
MailOnline has reached out to a representative of Kate for comment.

Kate is now the oldest singer to have a No. 1 single in the UK, taking the record set by Cher, who reached the top spot with 1998’s Believe.
It comes after Kate thanked the creators of Stranger Things for taking Running Up That Hill to the top of the UK charts.
The single was recently featured on the hit Netflix show and Kate has thanked the Duffer brothers – who created the series and serve as executive producers – for its record-breaking chart success.
Popular: Running Up That Hill skyrocketed in the charts after being featured in episodes one and four of Netflix’s newly released fourth season Stranger Things (Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield listening to the track).
Kate said: “The Duffer Brothers have created four extraordinary series of Stranger Things in which the child actors have grown into young adults.
“In this latest series, the characters face many of the same challenges that reality currently faces. I believe the Duffer Brothers have touched people’s hearts in a special way at a time that is incredibly difficult for everyone, especially younger people.
“By portraying Running Up That Hill in such a positive light – as a talisman for Max (one of the female leads) – the song was placed in the emotional arena of her story. Fear, conflict and the power of love surround her and her friends.
Impressive: To top off her trio of records, at 63, Kate is the oldest artist to ever reach a UK number one. She replaces Cher (pictured in September), who was 52 when her song Believe topped the charts in 1998
“I salute the Duffer Brothers for their courage in taking this new series to a much more mature and darker place. I want to thank them so much for bringing the song into the lives of so many people. (sic)’
Kate has broken the record for the longest gap between a single release and the top of the UK Singles Chart, surpassing the 36 years it took for Wham’s Last Christmas.
The Wuthering Heights hitmaker added on her website, “I’m blown away by the level of love and support the song is receiving and it’s all happening very quickly, like it’s being driven by some kind of elemental force.
“I have to admit that all of this really moves me.
“Thank you for making the song #1 in such an unexpected way.”
