Metallica’s Master Of Puppets is enjoying a massive resurgence in popularity after being used in the latest season of Stranger Things: ‘It’s an incredible honor’

Metallica’s 1986 song “Master Of Puppets” saw a massive resurgence in popularity due to its use in the final season of Stranger Things.
The song, which was released on the album of the same name, was featured in a pivotal scene in the fourth season finale, in which Joseph Quinn’s character Eddie Munson distracts Demobats by rocking out on guitar to the song.
According to Deadline, the single’s surge in popularity has seen it rack up 17 million streams on Spotify in recent weeks and is poised to return to the charts in the UK.

The outlet also pointed out that Metallica’s guitarist Kirk Hammett, bassist Robert Trujillo, and his son Tye all “recorded additional guitar tracks for the version of the song that appears on the show.”
Master of Puppets received critical acclaim upon its initial release, peaking at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The song has previously been used in films such as Old School and Zombieland: Double Tap.
The second part of Stranger Things season 4 was released earlier this month, and following its debut, the band released a statement on Instagram expressing their feelings about the use of their track.

“The way The Duffer Brothers integrated music into Stranger Things has always been next-level, so we were overjoyed that they not only included Master of Puppets in the show, but built such a central scene around it to have.”
The band emphasized, “We were all thrilled to see the end result and when we saw it we were absolutely blown away.”
The heavy metal mainstays then expressed that several of their fans found out the song was on the show before the second part of the season was released.
They wrote: “It’s so extremely well done that some people could guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy is that cool?’

In closing, they wrote, “It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again join the company of all the other great artists featured on the show.”
Master of Puppets has also charted again and is currently at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The band also showed their support for the show’s release with a video shared on their TikTok account of them all wearing Hellfire Club shirts while performing the song.
They also referenced one of Munson’s lines on the show with a message shared in the caption of their post, which read, “Eddie, this is for you!”

“Master Of Puppets” isn’t the only song used in the latest season of “Stranger Things,” which has seen a surge in popularity lately as Kate Bush’s 1985 track “Running Up That Hill” features prominently in the episodes played.
The hit track was used to take Sadie Sink’s character Max out of Upside Down in a scene from the fourth episode of the season.
The critically acclaimed song was subsequently used heavily in several other episodes.
Running Up That Hill experienced a huge surge in popularity following the release of the new season and is currently ranked third on the Hot 100 list.
