Ms. Marvel Season 1 finale

The following contains spoilers from Mrs MiracleSeason finale of . Proceed accordingly.

Mrs Miracle Executive producers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah had no idea Brie Larson appeared in the closing credits of Wednesday’s season finale. The duo, who directed the episode (as well as the series premiere) only found out about it while they were working on the final cuts.

“This scene was directed by Nia DaCosta during filming The wonders,” the Captain Marvel The sequel is slated for release in July 2023, Arbi tells TVLine. “When she was shooting that scene, she didn’t know it was going to be a post-credits scene and we didn’t know there was going to be one. We discovered it while color matching the show, and suddenly, after asking, we had this scene [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin Feige all the time.”

Brie Larson in Ms. MarvelIn the scene, Kamala (played by Iman Vellani) is chilling on her bed when her bracelet lights up and she is mysteriously “pulled” into her bedroom closet. However, it is not the young teenager who emerges from the rubble. Rather, her hero, Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers, walks out and surveys the room, muttering, “Oh, no, no, no, no…” (Read our full synopsis here.)

So what happened there? Did Kamala change her form as she is known in the comics, or is there something else at play here? “I’m assuming they’re swapping places,” Arbi muses. “Kamala is somewhere in a crazy universe I think.”

In the episode, we also learned that the teenage hero’s genetic makeup is different. In a private conversation, Bruno Kamala reveals that her DNA is “off” compared to the rest of her family – there is a “mutation” in her gene. This moment is animated by the 90’s theme X-Men Series that feels like more than just a coincidence. Still, Arbi isn’t sure what that means for Kamala in the long run.

“It was the best kept secret of the whole show. We didn’t even know about it until suddenly we had a script,” he says. “So when we had it, we were like, ‘What’s this about? What will happen?’ And Kevin Feige would say, ‘Just shoot that, turn on the little music and that’s it. If you’re part of the future of Ms. Marvel, you’ll know a little bit more.’”

Adds Fallah, “Kevin Feige has the master plan. He’s the only one who knows.”

Kamala might not be sure about her genetics — or really doesn’t care about “labels” at this point — but what’s clear is that she’s finally made her mark as Ms. Marvel. During a clash with the DODC, she was hit by a drone explosion that also knocked Kamran out briefly. She then utters her famous phrase “Embiggen” and does just that as her family cheers from the sidelines. For Fallah, this moment of recollection means that Kamala’s family is the true source of her strength.

“She’s on the ground. She’s never been so total [defeated]’ Fallah explains. “She looks to her family and that is where she gets her power from, because family is her superpower. She finds within herself the last energy she has and she says ’embiggen’ and then she becomes Ms. Marvel – the full version of herself.”

With Mrs Miracle After the conclusion of the first season, Kamala will go to the big screen in the helmet of Nia DaCosta The wonders, alongside Captain Marvel by Brie Larson and Monica Rambeau by Teyonah Parris. And as Kamala’s role expands in the MCU, Fallah hopes to stick with it.

“I hope that we’ll be part of her future and hopefully we’ll make a film about her,” he says. “I think she has a great future ahead of her. Iman Vellani is so young. Kamala Khan is so young. I think there is so much more. For me it is just the beginning of a long, adventurous story.”
