The love story of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt
The couple’s love story is nothing short of a fairy tale. In 2012, Alia confessed that she had a crush on Ranbir. While promoting her first film, Student of the Year, she said at a press conference, “I’ve always loved Ranbir. I love him more after Barfi. He’s my biggest crush and he always will be my biggest crush.” In late 2017, rumors of the pair’s approach on the sets of Brahmastra spread like wildfire. In 2018, Ranbir and Alia went public with their relationship at Sonam Kapoor’s wedding.
Speaking to GQ about his relationship at the time, Ranbir said: “It’s really new at the moment and I don’t want to exaggerate. It takes time to breathe and it takes space. As an actor, as a person, Alia – what’s the right word – is in flux right now. When I see her work, when I see her act, even in life, what she gives is something I aspire to for myself. It’s new to us so let it cook for a bit.”
Their relationship grew stronger after Ranbir’s father and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer and went to the US for treatment. Alia made several trips to the United States to be with Ranbir.
In 2019, Alia publicly declared her love for Ranbir at an awards ceremony. She said in her acceptance speech: “Meghna (Gulzar), for me Raazi is you, your blood and sweat. You are my main chick. Vicky (Kaushal), the film wouldn’t be complete without you. Thank you my mentor Karan for being my mentor, father and fashion police. Tonight is all about love, my special one, I love you Ranbir.”
In 2020, Ranbir said he would have married Alia if the pandemic had not struck. In 2022, Alia said she was “married to Ranbir in her mind” and told Indian Express that she “loves him deeply” and has full confidence in their relationship.
The couple wed on April 14 this year, following events two days before the wedding, including mehendi and sangeet. It was a private ceremony with only a few close friends and family members.
Announcing her wedding, Alia wrote, “Today we got married surrounded by our family and friends at home… on our favorite spot – the balcony where we have spent the last 5 years of our relationship.
After being through so much, we can’t wait to start making more memories together… Memories of love, laughter, comfortable silences, movie nights, silly fights, wine delights and Chinese bites.
Thank you for all the love and light at this very momentous time in our lives. That made this moment even more special. Love, Ranbir and Alia.”
Ranbir and Alia are awaiting the release of their first film together, Brahmastra, which will be released on September 9 after several years of delay.
