Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, leave St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on Friday after attending a service in honor of the Queen. Harry and Meghan, who had flown in from the US for the anniversary celebrations, were warmly greeted by a crowd outside the service. Ahead of the event, there was much speculation in the British press about how the couple would be received after deciding to step down from the royal family and move to California two years ago.

More than 400 people were invited to Friday’s event, which recognized the Queen’s lifelong service. The gathering included key workers, teachers and civil servants, as well as representatives from the armed forces, charities, social enterprises and volunteer groups, according to Buckingham Palace. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was in the audience.

Prince Charles comes to the service on Friday. Another of the Queen’s sons, Prince Andrew, was noticeably absent after testing positive for Covid-19.

The theme of Friday’s event was public service. It included Bible readings, prayers and congregational songs to honor the Queen’s 70 years on the British throne.
