Hulu’s divisive miniseries, Pam & Tommyalso received a total of 10 nominations – four of them in the main categories of the ceremony.

The show is a contender for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, and its leads – Sebastian Stan and Lily James – are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor and Lead Actor for their respective roles as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson.

In addition, Seth Rogen was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in the Limited or Anthology Series category.

Despite its success and acclaim from fans and critics alike, Pam & Tommy drew controversy after it was reported that Pamela felt “hurt” by the unauthorized retelling of her exploit.

The eight-part series re-examined the non-consensual distribution of Pamela and Tommy’s stolen sex tape in the 1990s and was filmed without the consent of the real people involved in the historical crime.

Courtney Love was among Pamela’s friends to speak out against the series, revealing she had uprooted a “complex trauma” for it Baywatch Actor. A source said Pamela felt “hurt to this day” over the sex tape.

Another told Entertainment Tonight: “The coming Pam & Tommy The Hulu series has been very painful for Pamela Anderson and everyone who loves her. It is shocking that this series is allowed to take place without their consent.”

As a result, people were understandably outraged at the blatant irony that Hulu didn’t get Pamela’s consent before retelling the story of their non-consensual sex tape.

The show was considered a sign of “history repeats itself‘, and its creators were summoned because they seemed to be trying to ‘benefit” of Pamela and Tommy’s exploitation a second time.

Still, when it aired, Pamela’s lack of approval left a sour taste in viewers’ mouths Pam & Tommy Finally, he was praised for highlighting the misogyny Pamela faced as a result of the leak.

Series executive producer DV DeVincentis previously told Variety, “I always come back to that with Pamela Anderson [she and Tommy] did exactly the same. And filmed them doing exactly the same thing together.”

“One of them was shamed and practically put out of business and became a rogue person,” DeVincentis said of Pamela’s experience. “The other got a new act and became this sex god. And the only difference between these two people [was] her gender. That’s it.”

Pamela hasn’t spoken explicitly about the show, but she seemed to confirm that she didn’t agree with the concept when she posted a brief statement on her Instagram page in March, just before the penultimate episode of Pam & Tommy aired.

In a handwritten note, Pamela told fans: “My life. A thousand imperfections. A million misjudgments. Evil, wild and lost. nothing to live for. I can only surprise you. Not a victim but a survivor. And alive to tell the real story.”

While a release date has yet to be announced, Pamela’s documentary is expected to be released on the streaming giant before the end of the year.

Fans took Pamela’s statement as proof that she didn’t agree Pam & Tommy in any way, so they were stunned when they realized Sebastian Stan tagged them in an Instagram post Tuesday about the show’s Emmy success.

Sebastian wrote a lengthy statement on his social media page which began: “So grateful and thrilled to be a part of this EPIC PAM AND TOMMY recognition!!!”

He then thanked the showrunner of the series, the directors, the hair and makeup team and the clients, before offering a shout-out to his costar Lily James. “My partner to the end of the line,” he said of Lily. “I was blessed to be across from you, couldn’t have made it without you, couldn’t have made it! Thank you for holding my hand on this journey!”

And the last part of Sebastian’s statement sparked backlash from readers, with the actor writing: “#PAMANDTOMMY is about a crime that took place without consent. It was a crime against privacy, a crime against love, a crime against family and a crime that we ALL as media and audiences were collectively guilty of, and it is more relevant now than ever.”

“I hope this can only help continue the conversation we wanted to bring to light,” Sebastian continued. “And that we can remember to examine our projections and our lewd attitudes not only toward @pamelaanderson and @tommylee, but toward ourselves and our exploitation of one another. SEE YOU AT THE EMMYS!!!”

A screenshot of the post was shared on a Reddit forum, and the actor’s decision to tag Pamela in the post quickly drew scrutiny — as did his comment that everyone was “a culprit” in the original crime.

“It’s funny how my ‘salacious attitude’ didn’t get me to star on a show that continues to exploit Pam, who specifically stated that she wasn’t for this production. Clay deaf moronic asshole,” one person wrote.

“He also tagged Pamela Anderson who is said to be finding reliving that trauma,” added another. “Also, this show made a whole new generation of people look up this sextape. In short, they are complicit. That’s her contribution to the conversation.”

“He’s got quite the guts to talk about consent, something Pamela didn’t give to this show,” mused another. Another commented: “Poor Pamela. He actually tagged her. Wtf.” One person responded, “Seriously, that was actually an awkward thing.”

Others pointed to the fact that during an appearance on a British daytime show, Sebastian admitted as “research” that he had watched Pamela and Tommy’s sex tape This morning.

Host Josie Gibson asked Sebastian and Lily if they’d seen the tape for themselves, to which Sebastian said, “Well it was research. I think an actor’s job is to find out as much as you can about the people you’re playing.”

“And he was watching the tape for ‘research’ but sure Seb tell yourself we’re all to blame,” one Reddit user said of his Instagram post. Another wrote, “Knowing he was watching the tape for ‘research purposes,’ if any of the victims find it traumatic, coming from him is abhorrent.”

“No I’m not [a culprit]’ said another. “I didn’t steal the tape. I never watched the tape. And I’ve certainly never done a show about the tape for me to be nominated for an Emmy.”

“Oh my god he’s talking about approval while celebrating a nomination for a show that was made without the consent of the victim and the scary thing is he really thinks he’s doing something big!! Disturbing,” echoed another user.

Sebastian has yet to respond to the backlash, and BuzzFeed News reached out to his rep for comment.

Pamela has not taken note of Sebastian’s post or Pam & Tommys Emmy nominations.
