Taylor Hawkins’ legacy lives on, even after his sudden death at the age of 50 in early March this year.
Oliver Shane, 16, joined a local Laguna Beach band by drumming to the song My Hero in honor of his beloved father. The late star was the drummer for the rock band Foo Fighters.
Teen rock group The Alive performed for a July 4 block party and welcomed Taylor’s son in a heartfelt tribute to his father as he was unable to attend in person to celebrate the holiday.

The song “My Hero” was released by the Foo Fighters in 1997 on the album “The Color And The Shape”.
Oliver, who is also called Shane, starred in a short clip that the local spa uploaded to their official Instagram page, no doubt making his dad immensely proud.
The Alive included a caption with the video in which they thanked the Laguna Beach community for their support and also expressed their gratitude that the police hadn’t shut them down.
The band also gave Shane a shoutout. “Special thanks to @shane_hawkins_22 for sitting along.”

According to Variety, the band had the opportunity to open for the Foo Fighters at Lollapalooza Chile just a week before Taylor’s death.
Laguna Beach happened to be the area the drummer grew up in, which turned out to be the perfect spot for Shane to pay his father’s homage on July 4th.

Taylor was found unresponsive in his hotel room at the Four Seasons in Columbia on March 25 after an 911 call was received about the drummer’s chest pain.
Messages of condolence and prayers flooded social media after news of his death broke.
His wife Alison released a statement on his Instagram page on behalf of the entire Hawkins family at the time of his death.

Taylor’s family supported his work and often accompanied him on tour along with the other band members and their families.
The former Foo Fighters drummer was a father to three children, Oliver, Annabelle and Everleigh.
During a past interview with ET Canada along with his bandmates, Taylor chimed in on how his son has wanted to follow in his footsteps since he was a child.
“My son thinks, you know, he’s preparing to take my job in about 10 or 15 years, which is fine,” he said. He did not know that this statement would still apply today.
