The unrecognizable Christian Bale shocks fans in new 'Thor' movie

We’re not in Gotham City anymore.

Christian Bale is unrecognizable in Thor: Love and Thunder, but while fans aren’t surprised by his dramatic change in appearance, they’re comparing it to a photo of a heavy metal band.

Bale, previously known for DC Comics “Batman,” moves to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the latest installment, this time playing the villain.

On screen, he portrays Gorr, the godslayer who seeks to destroy all the gods and confronts the hero Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth.

Hemsworth, 38, promised fans in a clip posted to Instagram that the film will “blow your mind” – and true to his word, it didn’t disappoint.

The movie trailer showed a chilling first look at Bale, whose character appears bloody and scarred. The sneak peek confused fans, who called his look unrecognizable and compared him to him Marilyn Manson and voldemort from the Harry Potter series.

“Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher looks like the cover art for a heavy metal album.” wrote one Twitter user.

“I didn’t even recognize him” tweeted another.

In the trailer, Bale emerges as Gorr from a shadowy forest before switching to various fight scenes between Gorr and other heroes, as well as Thor reuniting with his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman.

“You’re not like the other gods I’ve killed,” Gorr says to heroes Thor and Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, as they frolic on screen.

The latest teaser was released Monday via Marvel Entertainment’s official YouTube channel and has been viewed more than two million times in two hours. By Tuesday it had amassed more than 13 million.

The film, which premieres July 8, also stars a nude Hemsworth, giving fans a sneak peek of a blurry butt in the trailer.

In a post-credits scene in the teaser video, Zeus, played by Russell Crowe, snaps his wrist to undress Thor, leaving little to the imagination.

“You flicked too hard, damn it!” a dismembered Thor screams as he is restrained from Zeus, his full pack making the women around him swoon.

A previous trailer for the film last month had fans reeling, speculating that Thor had a “gay awakening” with co-star Chris Pratt appearing as Star-Lord.

Among the other Guardians of the Galaxy appearing in the film are Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Dave Bautista’s Drax The Destroyer, Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, and anthropomorphic tree/raccoon sidekicks Groot and Rocket, voiced by Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, respectively .

Fans have been anticipating the upcoming film since its announcement at Comic-Con in 2019, where Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also announced that Portman would be returning to the franchise for the first time since 2013.
