Woman who says Ezra Miller choked her in Iceland in 2020 speaks out

The woman, who “The Flash” actor Ezra Miller appeared to put in a chokehold in an April 2020 viral video, told Variety that she thought their interaction was “just fun and games” at first.

For the first time, the woman and a friend who was with her at the time — neither of whom are identified by Variety because of their privacy — voiced the conversation with Miller that led to the filmed incident. (While the video made headlines around the world, no charges have been filed by authorities, and neither Miller nor his representatives have ever issued a statement regarding the encounter. Miller’s representatives did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.)

According to the Variety report, Miller spoke to the woman at Prikið Kaffihús, a bar in Reykjavík, Iceland that Miller frequented at the time. As Variety reports, Miller wore

, and the woman asked the actor about any wounds she could see on her feet. Miller told her they were “battle scars from a fight,” according to the report.

The woman said she wanted to walk away, but then turned and said to Miller, “But just so you know, I might put you in a fight.”

She said she meant it as a joke, but Miller reportedly replied, “Do you really want to fight?”

The woman, believed to be still joking, then told Miller to “meet her in the smoking area in two minutes,” according to the report.

Another friend of the woman then approached Miller and said he heard the actor didn’t want the fight to happen.

“My friend didn’t have to say that,” the woman told Variety, clarifying her friend’s comment, “was obviously just joking,” but Miller “took it literally and got super angry and came running outside.” That’s when one of the friends began record the woman what happened.

“I think it’s just fun and games — but it wasn’t that, either,” the woman told Variety. She said Miller then “jumped on me, choked me and still yelled in my face when I wanted to fight.”

At that point, the woman recalled that her friend had stopped filming because Miller was “obviously not kidding and it’s actually serious,” and allegedly pushed the actor off the woman. The woman said two of her male friends held Miller back when Miller yelled at her, “That’s what you wanted! This is what you wanted!”

Variety confirmed details of the event with three of the woman’s friends and a bartender at Prikið Kaffihús named Carlos Reynir being early for his shift and outside the bar when the fight took place. Reynir told Variety he ran to stop the altercation when he saw it “getting out of hand.”

According to Reynir, Miller grabbed his throat when he tried to get the actor to go through a back door. Miller refused to leave, claiming to Reynir that one of the woman’s friends pushed her and prompted her behavior, according to Variety. Reynir told the publication the woman’s friends didn’t push Miller.

“They spat in my face several times, so with the last push I closed and locked the door,” he recalled.

Miller also reportedly spat in the woman’s then-girlfriend’s face “a number of times.” The alleged incident happened in the days before the pandemic was vaccinated.

After Reynir removed Miller from the bar and locked the front and back doors, he said the actor then ran around the building, “banging on the door and screaming to be let in,” per Variety. Eventually, friends of Miller’s drove by the bar to pick them up, and the car drove away.

Variety confirmed Reynir’s account of the incident with three other sources, including Prikið Kaffihús’ management, according to the report.

The woman who accused Miller of putting her in a chokehold reported the incident to police at the time, Variety has confirmed, but she didn’t press charges.

The woman’s story is the latest portrayal of Miller’s controversial behavior in recent years. In the same report, Variety also spoke to a former friend of Miller’s, who claims she called her a “Nazi” and a “transphobic piece of shit” and acted threateningly when she asked her not to smoke during a visit to her home.

In June, Insider reported that Miller was accused of grooming a teenager, and law enforcement officials said the actor could not be located to obtain legal papers. The actor was also arrested in March for disorderly conduct at a karaoke bar in Hawaii. Miller later pleaded no contest and was fined $500, People reported.
