The Professional Fighters League (PFL) returns tonight (July 1, 2022) with its usual array of Friday night action. The welterweights and women’s lightweights have the floor tonight, which all leads to a main event between two-time tournament champion Kayla Harrison and 15-year veteran Kaitlin Young.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Rory MacDonald takes on Sadibou Sy in the co-main event, former PFL champion Ray Cooper III takes on Bellator alum Brett Cooper a fight earlier, and another former tournament winner, Magomed Magomedkerimov, opens the tournament’s main card against late substitute, Dilano Taylor.

PFL 6 COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE

155 lbs.: Kayla Harrison vs. Kaitlin Young

Round one: Harrison wants to strike early. A powerful double leg puts them at the top of side control after a minute. Landing punches as Young tries to work his way up. Half watch two minutes in. Drop right hands with a hook. Full back rise and she just keeps hitting until the referee steps in.

Bottom line: Harrison defeated. Young by TKO (punches)


170 lbs.: Rory MacDonald vs. Sadibou Sy

Round one: Early one-legged attempt by MacDonald. Attempts to transition to double, content to put him on the fence. One minute in. They split up. Sy fires off a quick headbutt, then gets clipped again. MacDonald falls to the mat to try and get a better angle but still nothing after two minutes. Sy turns around, is turned around again. MacDonald knees him in the Ghoulies with two minutes to go.

You restart from a distance in the middle. Sy circles away from a combo and lands low kicks. MacDonald shoots again, rejected again. Just a minute. They split up. Direct right of Sy, Jabs behind. Solid body kick from MacDonald in return. Short rights against the fence. Sy counter slams him just before he gets clipped. 10-9 Sy.

Round two: Both try front kicks at the start. MacDonald puts him on the fence again. One minute in. Keep pushing Sy against the fence. Two minutes later. More of that. Two minutes before the end, Sy tries to turn back.

Sy pushes him away. headbutt attempt. In return, run directly from MacDonald. Su jab and hook, long uppercut just misses. MacDonald to the body. Just a minute. MacDonald is looking for another one-legged friend. Back to grinding against the fence. 10-9McDonalds.

Round three: MacDonald puts the pressure on, lands a nice overhand right and shoots in again. One minute in. They split up. Body kick attempt by Sy. Another clinch, Sy pressing this time. Ranging by position. Hip lock in the back for MacDonald. Two minutes later. knees to the body. Sy hits a trip in half guard with two minutes to go.

MacDonald works his way up, puts him on the fence, and kneels Sy in the trash again. Still no point deduction. Body kick by Sy avoiding a front kick. He tries to shoot, is put on the fence, separates. Head and body kicks from Sy, then a quick jab as they connect. Just a minute. MacDonald tries to throw on the exit. Low kick from Sy and a quick jab after a missed headkick. Knees to MacDonald’s body in return. Sy wraps things up with a few body kicks. That ends the most fan-unfriendly performance of MacDonald’s career. 10-9 Sy.

End result: Sy def. MacDonald by unanimous decision


170 lbs.: Brett Cooper vs. Ray Cooper III

Round one: Cooper III comes out and absolutely hits the fence. Cooper tries to throw back, but Cooper III folds him with knees and body shots before buffing him away.

End result: Cooper III def. Cooper by TKO (knees and punches)


170 lbs.: Magomed Magomedkerimov vs. Dilano Taylor

Round one: Fast jab by Taylor. Magomedkerimov wades in with a combo, landing a left hook. One minute in. Both men sit out of range. Brief collision, no takedown. Fast exchange in the center. Magomedkerimov tries a headkick, eats a lowkick. Slow first lap. Body shot in the clinch, unable to land right on exit. Two more minutes.

A flying switch-kick attempt hits Taylor in the groin, but he chooses to continue. Nice surprise takedown by Magomedkerimov. Stands over Taylor near the cage and settles in to guard. Solid punches from the standing by Magomedkerimov give Taylor a chance to get up, but he’s soon thrown back into cover. 10-9 Magomedkerimov.

Round two: Low kick lands for Magomedkerimov. High low 1-2s by Taylor. A heavy counter right by Magomedkerimov answered a low kick a minute later. Long 1-2 falls short. Two minute sin. Back to touch sparring. Taylor attempts another naked low kick and Magomedkerimov lands the same counter to great effect. Taylor almost goes over the mat but manages to get back on his feet. Two more minutes.

Another great right hand from Magomedkerimov. Flying knee misses but another big right lands clean. Taylor is on his feet and the referee comes in for a standing TKO.

Final result: Magomedkerimov def. Taylor by TKO (punches)


155 lbs.: Larissa Pacheco vs. Genah Fabian

Lap one: Pacheco advances early. She trips Fabian with an inside low kick and then rocks her with a hard combo that makes Fabian shoot. Denying it, Pacheco moves to a rear body lock, then takes her to a mount against the fence. The arm triangle is there for her and she wraps it. She can’t switch to side control because of the cage and Fabian is having a hard time. Caught in half guard, still squeezing. Back to the horse and she lets go of it to shoot away with punches until the referee intervenes.

Bottom line: Pacheco def. Fabian by TKO (punches)


170 lbs.: Jarrah Al-Silawi vs. Magomed Umalatov

Lap one: Timid start. A minute later, no strikes thrown. Umalatov hits the fence in the clinch. Separation. Low kicks by Al-Silawi. After two minutes. Ref wants action, audience gets angry. Halfhearted lowkick from Umalatov. Decent clinch knee. Al-Silawi comes back with a jab. Two more minutes.

Umalatov is looking for a 1-2-3. Al-Silawi intercepts one of his kicks, but Umalatov hits him with a short rear fist, shorting him out. Umalatov chases him down and bombards him unconscious in a sudden end to a deadly boring fight.

End result: Umalatov defeated. Al-Silawi by KO (punches)
