Community Focus – Adrienne Fiore > What’s New

After a nice little two week break, we’re back with another Community Focus. With so much talk about Mara Sov witnessing Crow’s battles with his own Nightmare in Season of the Haunted, this particular community focus comes at an interesting time. When I first saw this cosplayer’s Mara, my jaw dropped to the floor. From the beautiful craftsmanship of the costume itself to the incredibly expert makeup that gave her that coveted Awoken look, everything about her Destiny 2 cosplay journey drew me in. Hope our community feels the same way!

Meet Adrienne Fiore, a US based cosplayer who makes me almost feel bad for being angry with Mara and her cunning manipulations. Love her or hate her, she’s a boss, and Adrienne perfectly captured the essence of this character in a way that we’re happy to share.

So without further ado, let’s get into that.

Adrienne, welcome! I’m really excited to chat with you and show our community some of your awesome projects. Before we start, tell us a little about yourself!

I’m Adrienne! I’m awesome, but it would be better if I played Destiny now! [laughs] I’m a single mom with a nine year old son (who loves the game too!). I also work full time as a manager at Outback Steakhouse so sometimes I can’t play as much as I would like. I started playing with the first NES (shhh, I’m not old, I swear) and I was hooked from there. Over the years I’ve owned every gaming console and played thousands of titles, but it wasn’t until Destiny 1 came out that I finally found a game to stick with. Over the years I’ve made new friends and gotten current ones to play Destiny with me, and it’s honestly been awesome, especially considering how much games like this evolve over time.

I agree! Live service games are great in many ways, especially for players who want to feel connected to a world without that world being outdated. We connected with your Mara Sov cosplay via a post on a wonderful Facebook page called The Ladies of Destiny. Honestly, I was blown away by how accurate your mara expressions were. I have to ask, when did you start cosplaying and what made you do it?

I actually cosplayed as Mara for the first time at MegaCon in 2016! I’ve had several other characters that I’ve cosplayed over the years, but I’ve always wanted to remake and improve Mara to test myself and see how my skills have developed. Because of this, I’ve slowly tweaked the entire costume over the years. However, my very first cosplay wasn’t a gaming cosplay, it was Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones (we’re not talking about season 8). One of my friends is super smart so she helped me get started and because she’s such a good friend she’s almost always willing to help me with any new project I have in mind. I got into cosplay for a pretty simple reason: I like looking like a badass! [laughs]

Is there a dream cosplay you would like to do one day, with no limits? Asking for me because despite numerous learning efforts I can’t even sew to fix a button so this whole process is magic to me!

Honestly, my two dream cosplays would be Sephiroth from Final Fantasy and Mara Sov’s new outfit! Ever since she appeared in Destiny 1 and we had the Queen’s Embassy, I’ve been obsessed with everything Awakened and Mara Sov. In the first Destiny, I even had all of the Queen’s gear and rocked the cloak for the entire game. No regret. [laughs]

Hey, the commitment is admirable! Also, you mentioned ancient Sephi from Final Fantasy. That’s an instant win.

Speaking of wins and Destiny goodness, curious minds will want to know: which subclass is your main concern when in-game? Are you a “My physique always has to be perfect” player or an “anything goes” type?

I’ve been a main hunter (RIP Cayde) since day one, although lately I’ve been really focused on a stasis build. I know, I know, “stasis hunter, cue angry noises,” but it works. As far as weapons go, my favorite loadouts are Gjallarhorn, Suro’s Regime, Wish Ender, and Telesto. I also have a thing for Halloween extras. I’m still rocking the Sparrow broomstick from a few years ago. What can I say, I’m faithful.

I’m forever plagued by being surrounded by Hunter nets, the struggle is real. [laughs] Just kidding I like that you love the class so much you have seen how it has evolved over the years I think there is something really special about that.

Because you are such a creative person by nature, I’m dying to know how you would like to see Destiny 2’s story from here?

Characters I would say this because of my cosplay, but I just love the Awoken so much that I want more story around them! The Dreaming City is my happy place so everything related to it is amazing!

While I really miss Cayde-6 and wish there was a way to bring him back, I love Crow’s development and enjoy seeing more of him. But really, I just want to see him experience some happiness. He’s not Uldren, he deserves a fresh start.

I feel like the Dreaming City and your desire to see Cayde return could have so much potential for theories. We’ve seen some savages from the community about him and the Awoken! I’m pretty much to blame for that, even though I work here. Want to share gaming theories about what might be on the horizon?

Not so much a wild theory re particularities, but I think it would be really great to have a mission here or there where we can play as NPC. Like Variks or maybe even Exo Stranger. It would be nice to see different perspectives of this world, even for brief bursts through a side quest or something.

Enthuses about being a Servitor so I can roll around like a big ball all day doing nothing and still wreak havoc. Another favorite question I like to ask, especially to cosplayers because their minds see elements and how they translate into the real world: If you could dream up your dream subclass, what would it be? Anything goes, get weird if you want.

hmm I think if I could create a subclass it would be kind of do-it-yourself (DIY). A subclass where you can combine elements from all classes (within reason) so I can pick and choose what I like from each and still make it my own. I mean, just imagine having Blade Barrage and Stasis in melee to freeze?! How cool would that be?

Also not related but please give me a Mara Sov action figure to buy.

Mara Sov subclass, Roger that! Based on your relationship with the convention scene, is there anything you would like to say to the Destiny 2 and gaming community in general?

just have fun Do what makes you happy! I get a lot of heartache for the smallest of things like playing Destiny or investing in cosplay, but none of that has ever stopped me. It shouldn’t stop you either! Let people be happy and just be kind. Also, if you want to do a Destiny cosplay or just cosplay in general? Do it! I don’t see it enough and would love to see more cosplayers adopt Destiny 2 characters.

It’s such a pleasure to speak to you. Thank you for taking the time to speak to us about your love for Mara and your commitment to Hunter. It was honestly a blast! Before we let you go to dominate some sever action, is there anyone you’d like to shout out to? Don’t forget to tell people where to find you to follow your cosplay journey!

I owe my entire raiding and dungeoning experience to KobnarCan on Xbox! He always makes a seat for me when I finally have time to play. it means everything to me

If you are interested, you can follow me on Instagram! I also post my non-Destiny cosplay, progression shots, and more!

And that’s closing for yet another community focus and inspiring community member. It’s always a good opportunity to sit down with other players and dig a little inside their heads to see the game world through their eyes. Adrienne was no exception, especially with loyalty to her favorite characters. As a huge Crow fan, I understand those feelings and I know some of you do too.

You are all inspirations and I hope you remember that you matter even when times are tough when things are getting a little dark. You are special, you are loved and you are so incredibly appreciated. So don’t dim the light, keep shining. We’ll be here to see you conquer the world.

“I should go,”
