Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the base game and the packages Break DLC was a surprise expansion to Square Enix’s 2020 release. It featured a separate, new chapter in the original’s revamped story. This side story focuses on Yuffie Kisaragi and helps fit her character into the narrative a bit more organically, as she was a totally optional and totally overlookable character in the original 1997 PlayStation release.

If you are something of a Final Fantasy VII Scholars, then you know there were some other ambitions to include her and the story of her Wutai village in the main story of the original publication. Since Make new Aimed at tweaking elements of the old story, it makes sense to see optional characters like Yuffie and gun-wielding Vincent Valentine play more prominent roles in the story. But if you owned a digital copy of it Make new on PS4 or PS5 before intergrad came out, it might be difficult to get this new story content through Sony’s subscription service.

You already own the following products that conflict with the product you are trying to purchase: FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE.

Reddit user bLinkbruhyen shared his experience and frustration with this complication on r/PS5who share their message from Square Enix, which indicates nothing more than the obvious: if you have Final Fantasy VII Remake digital, then you can not get it intergrad as part of your PlayStation subscription. A follow-up edit from PlayStation seems to suggest a change could be on the way, but nothing is certain.

As bLinkbruhyn points out in their post, they’re probably not the only ones who got a digital copy of Make new when it was free via PlayStation Plus last year. This is confirmed by Twitter user LasTedOnEarth, who described the situation as “unfair”.

Twitter user Taz_fortune also reports no access intergrad through Sony’s subscription service.

While subscription services like Xbox Game Pass have more than proven their place in modern gaming, strange licensing issues and rules specific to certain versions of games are likely to emerge. It’s just a shame it had to happen to someone so popular.
