Fortnite Season 4 is live - everything new here including map changes, Battle Pass, trailers and more

09/18 update below. This post was originally published on September 16th.

After five hours of downtime Fourteen days Chapter 3 Season 4 is live. The servers are back up and players are hopping off the Battle Bus to go head-to-head on a map with some pretty significant changes.

Season 4 is called Paradise, which is a strange title for a season about a mysterious, all-consuming substance called Chrome that takes place on Halloween. Here’s everything you need to know.

Chrome paradise

We begin with the story trailer, which introduces us to the strange new metallic liquid called Chrome, which has begun to devour the map and the seven, and introduces Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) as The Paradigm:

At the end of the trailer, we are also introduced to a mysterious red-haired villain named The Herald:

Chrome will play a big role this season. You can turn yourself and structures into chrome, and walk through chrome walls that you can create in enemy structures to make them penetrable.

Morphing into Chrome grants you immunity to fire and fall damage for a short time, and sprinting transforms into a Chrome blob. You can also sprint in the air, which allows you to slide through walls (allowing you to slide through a Chrome wall if you’re not Chrome, and through any other structure if you’re are Chrome.

New weapons + returning weapons

Two new weapons were introduced in Season 4. Unsurprisingly, these are both based on Chrome.

EvoChrome shotgun

EvoChrome Burst Rifle

Returned and Unvaulted Weapons:

  • Pistol with sidearm
  • Premium shotgun
  • Lever-action shotgun
  • Rapid fire SMG
  • Suppressed submachine gun
  • Ranger Assault Rifle
  • Hammer Assault Rifle
  • Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)
  • Hunter bolt action sniper
  • grenade
  • Firefly Jar
  • Harpoon Gun
  • Shadow Tracker (Exotic Weapon)
  • The Dub (Exotic Weapon)
  • Boom Sniper Rifle (Exotic Weapon)
  • Boogie Bomb (not technically a weapon but sounds like it)
  • Shockwave Grenade (not technically a weapon either, but here it is)

Sniper rifles got a buff as well, making the long game a lot more viable this season:

  • Hunter bolt action sniper – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • hunting rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • Automatic sniper rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • lever-action rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
  • Suppressed Sniper Rifle – Damage increased
  • Semi-automatic sniper rifle – Damage increased
  • rail gun – Damage increased
  • Bolt action sniper rifle – Damage increased
  • Heavy sniper rifle – Headshot multiplier increased
  • Storm Scout sniper rifle – Headshot multiplier increased
  • Boom sniper rifle – Explosion damage increased

Battle Pass Season 4

Six new skins are coming in the Season 4 Battle Pass and one “secret” skin. Read all about them and how to unlock them exactly here. The Battle Pass again includes 100 tiers of content unlockable with Battle Stars and includes gliders, sprays, emotes, pickaxes and more.

New map + map changes

Condo Canyon fled and became Cloudy Condos. You can use D-Launcher to catapult (or build) yourself onto the floating platforms.

The other big new point of interest is the Sanctum of the Herald:

This is what the new map looks like. You can see that it’s gotten a bit autumnal, and we now have four quite different biomes, with wintry snow, green fields, a desert, and the autumn biome.

New items like the Chrome Splash, which can turn you or walls into Chrome, have joined the game. There are now vaults too, which you can unlock with special keys found around the map in chests and such. Low security safes require a key; High security vaults require two and offer better loot. Finding a key will show the Vault locations on the map. Unfortunately, gone are the days when Epic Games made something like this a real challenge.

Epic Games also added new slide kick action, Season 4 challenges, and various other gameplay and balance tweaks.

That’s pretty much it! Good luck getting your Victory Royales, young padawans! See you in paradise!

Original story

Fourteen days Chapter 3, Season 3 has been running almost all summer. In fact, the season began on June 5th, two weeks before the summer solstice. It ends just a few days before fall officially begins.

We’ve gotten some hints about the new season being called Paradise – although that seems like a darkly ironic title. While Season 3’s Vibin moniker gave it a fun summery vibe, Paradise is an odd setting for what appears to be a very spooky season.

Weird liquid chrome is present in each of the teaser images so far, and it seems our heroes – and the map – could get sucked under the gooey, oily-looking stuff.

We’ll know more soon enough. The end of season 3 is almost here and season 4 is just around the corner. Here’s what you need to know.

Season 3 officially ends Sunday, September 18 at approximately 2:00 p.m. ET. That is Saturday September 17th 11:00pm if you refer to Pacific Time. That collapses at 6am UTC on Sunday the 18th.

From here we can typically expect three or four hours of downtime depending on the update, and of course you’ll need to update your game after Epic Games has done their server-side magic.

Season 4 starts right after the servers come back online, so you should be up and running first thing on Sunday morning, when you’ll wake up bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and ready to snag some Victory Royales.

We’ll be covering the new Battle Pass, map changes, challenges, and anything else popping up here at Forbes Games. I’m still hoping that Epic will bring back decent challenges and fun stuff like loading screens and hidden battle stars or coins, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up.

Good luck out there, young padawans. follow me Twitter or Facebook for more Fourteen days Season 4 coverage.

Update #1

Here’s what we know so far about Chapter 3 Season 4 based on leaks, rumours, teasers and official announcements from Epic Games.

The Battle Pass skins

Gwen Stacy

We know for sure that there will be a Gwen Stacy Spider-Man skin that appears to have the cool glitchy cel shading animation used in the marvelous Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse movie (one of my very favorite Spidey movies of all time).

Goth Meowscles

We also know there’s a Goth Meowscles skin perfect for Halloween, although the “muscles” in the cat’s name seems to be a misnomer at this point. Goth Meowscles is not cunning in the truest sense of the word.

A third chrome hands skin could also be part of the Battle Pass thanks to what we’ve seen in the teasers (although of course this should be taken with a pinch of salt).

Finally, popular streamer SypherPK is also getting its own Icon Series skin, although it won’t be part of the Battle Pass. In the image of the new skin there is also a new scope or some kind of tactical rifle, so expect that as one of the new weapons in Chapter 4 Season 4.

Other changes we can expect are heaps of chrome on the map, including chrome tornadoes that resemble monuments rather than moving weather events. We should also see a series of balloons floating across the map.

Patch 22.00

The new 22.00 patch will be released when the game shuts down on Sunday, but at this time we don’t know the exact size of the update on each platform. I will update this post as soon as we know.

live event

Unfortunately there will be no live event to wrap up Season 3 and kick off Season 4 which is definitely a huge shame. Fortnite live events are some of the best out there and a real highlight every season. Hopefully we’ll get a big live event in a few months to wrap up Season 4.
