Web3 gaming company Gala Games announced that it will be releasing its blockchain games to the Epic Games Store, starting with the Wild West title Grit.

This is a big step for the visibility and mainstream potential of non-fungible token (NFT) games, which use the blockchain to authenticate unique digital items and allow players to resell items. The exact start time has not yet been determined, but there is a live store page.

While Valve has banned NFT games, said Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney Epic would allow them into the store, which has more than 194 million users.

Gala Games hopes to bring Web3 gaming to the masses, bring this new genre of entertainment to millions of players and solidify its position as a leader in the burgeoning Web3 gaming industry. While blockchain game companies raised a lot of money ($1.2 billion out of $3.4 billion raised from all game startups in Q1), the player base was small. Reaching the mainstream — even amid an outcry over objections to NFTs from some players — has become the goal of all blockchain gaming companies focused on quality content.

Grit is the pioneer

You can ride horses or fight in trains in Grit.

Grit, a battle royale title set in the Wild West and being developed by Team Grit, is the first in a series of Gala Games titles that could be coming to the Epic Games Store. This announcement follows a series of firsts for the Web3 company. Gala recently announced a Triple-A studio’s Web3 first-person shooter (FPS), launched the Gala Music platform, and announced the upcoming launch of Spider Tanks, the world’s first NFT esport.

“Epic is a pioneer and visionary in the video game industry. Gala Games’ titles being available on the Epic Game Store brings legitimacy to this new gaming genre,” said John Osvald, President of Games at Gala Games, in a statement. “Ease of access to Web3 games is a game changer for those gamers who haven’t seen how digital ownership can enrich the gaming experience.”

Grit is based on the Unreal Engine with realistic physics. Players must saddle up, ride, and fight their way through a city. Every grit game is different, from Train Chase mode to Golden Horse with the promise of epic showdowns and gunfights.

Players face off against a gang of gunslingers with more than 400 old-school weapon variants. Game modes include Solo, Duo, and Squad. Showdowns take place on horseback or atop steam engines, so players must ensure their arsenal is ready. Fans can wishlist the free game coming later in 2022.

Galaverse event

A firefight in grit.

To celebrate Galaverse (June 6-9, 2022), Gala Games is offering a special sale of The Gunslinger Box starting today in Malta, unlocking one of 10,000 Grit Avatars. Each character has its own specific perks and attributes that the owner can play as in the game.

Attributes are generative and give each character a unique look. Owners can carry their preferred loadout on certain weapon skins in-game, giving them an edge over their counterparts. The sale begins today for Galaverse participants and will open gradually throughout the week: node owners gain access on June 7th and Gala Gold on June 8th. The public has access to The Gunslinger Box sale on June 9th. Each group has access to the sale for a period of 12 hours.

“Here at Team Grit, we’re investing in this new ecosystem and we see all the value that Web3 can bring to the gaming experience,” said Jon Mavor, CTO at Team Grit, in a statement. “We are excited to partner with Gala Games and our presence on the Epic Games Store. Web3 will make the Wild West experience even better for players.”

Mavor and Bob Berry founded Team Grit as a game development and publishing company. They previously developed Planetary Annihilation and Monday Night Combat. Grit is Team Grit’s first game.

More details on Grit will be revealed during the Galaverse in Malta from June 6th to 8th.

crypto games

Grit is a battle royale from the Wild West.

Gala Games has built a platform that combines play-to-earn mechanics and NFTs, and recruits game developers who know how to make fun games. The company works with developers like Will Wright and Peter Molyneux and popular entertainment brands like The Walking Dead. Osvald said in a previous interview that the focus is on making gamers happy.

Gala is a Web3 entertainment ecosystem that allows users to earn rewards for their routine entertainment activities such as gaming, listening or watching. Through real ownership made possible by blockchain technology, Gala is able to strategically insert ownership into multiple layers of an entertainment experience.

This is best illustrated through games where a Gala player can own things like the land on which the battle is fought. You can sell your items as if you were trading cryptocurrency as long as you can figure out how to do it.

Gala Games has had success on the financial front with small audiences with its Townstar and Spider Tanks (beta) games (with more than 1.3 million total players), but the goal is to convert millions more players to blockchain games.

Gala Games has built its blockchain ecosystem on the Gala Games token (GALA) built on the ERC-20 standard for the Ethereum blockchain, and it also works on the Binance Smart Chain. Through the token, players can invest in and own their game assets such as Spider Tanks. You can also resell them. Their tokens also give them the right to vote on the future direction of the game’s development.

Gala Games’ GALA token has a market cap of $520 million, which is well below its peak of $5.4 billion in November. It has followed the pattern of many blockchain gaming systems in this market downturn. But that hasn’t affected the company’s ability to fund new games.

The challenge is to make the process of buying, storing, and selling NFTs a simple process that mainstream gamers can easily adopt. Gala uses Metamask wallets and the OpenSea trading platform.
