iPhone 15 Pro with USB-C and Periscope zoom camera: The perfect iPhone to convince Android users to switch?

“The iPhone 14 isn’t even out yet, but he’s talking about the iPhone 15 here.” I know, I know… But my intentions are good, so bear with me…

(which are exactly two months away from release according to the latest rumours) is that they will give us:

The story is for those Android users (and those with older iPhones, too) who feel that the above list of upgrades just isn’t enough to justify switching from Android, or at least $1,100 for an iPhone 14 per to pay.

iPhone 15 Pro: Will USB-C, a periscope zoom camera and the most customizable version of iOS (16) ever attract Android users and those with older iPhones?

USB-C is coming to the iPhone 15, Android fans

Starting with the big ones, USB-C is reportedly set to make its way across the iPhone 15 lineup in 2023! This is because new European laws from 2024 will require all phones (among other devices) to ship with a common USB-C port.

Technically, the mandate doesn’t affect the iPhone 15 (expected in 2023), but if the rumors are true, Apple will rush to future-proof the iPhone 15. This looks pretty likely now that we know The AirPods Pro 2 (coming out this fall) are said to feature a USB-C connector – a first for Cupertino’s wireless earbuds, which would mark the beginning Apple’s complete transition to USB-C.

5-6x periscope zoom camera is said to be available for iPhone 15 Pro Max

Yes! The long-awaited modern periscope zoom lens we first saw on the Huawei P30 Pro back in 2019 is rumored to finally be making its way into the Apple universe. But not as a fictional character. It should be real this time! After countless “confirmations” and callbacks from leakers, top analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now says that the long-range zoom camera will be one of the iPhone 15 Pro’s main selling points, and that’s exciting! For the record, Kuo outlines this as of now, only the bigger The iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to get a new 5-6x periscope zoom lens. That being said, I’d take that with a good grain of salt, since Apple’s current approach to hardware upgrades is to pack the same features into the smaller and larger iPhones.

Leaks aside, another hint that the iPhone 15 Pro series could bring a periscope zoom camera comes from Apple Patents, but also the fact that the iPhone 14 Pro is only expected to have a new rear camera, given the 48-megapixel primary snapper. If you’ve been in a coma for the last 15 years, Apple is the kind of company that likes to… push the upgrades. A lot of.

For Android users, iOS 16 is now as customizable as ever

I’m aware that the concept of an iPhone with USB-C sounds shocking enough – our editor-in-chief, for example, still doesn’t think it’s going to happen. However, there is something equally shocking that is making its way to the iPhone 15, as well as the iPhone 14 (and all iPhones up to the iPhone 8), and that is the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system – iOS 16!

A revamped lock screen with lock screen gallery, iCloud Shared Photo Library, Edit a message, Shared Safari Tab Groups, Passkeys (like a password but more secure) and Live Text in photos and videos – these are just a small part of everything new and exciting features for iOS 16.

Many are calling iOS 16 “one of the biggest software updates in iPhone history,” and while that might be debatable, we can all come together and say that iOS 16 is the biggest customization-focused upgrade we’ve seen from Apple iPhone.

For the first time ever, iPhone users can fully customize their lock screen with iOS 16. Apple’s additional support for up to five widgets always waiting for you. Additionally, while it’s being kept secret, we already know that Apple plans to introduce the long-awaited always-on display feature with the iPhone 14 (some pretty solid looking ones Leaks basically confirmed that).

Background images on iPhone are now also super customizable. There is a feature called Photo Shuffle that allows the iPhone to automatically change its wallpaper daily/hourly or every time you wake the phone or tap the lock screen. This can keep your iPhone feeling fresh every time you unlock it. If it sounds familiar, that’s because Huawei phones have been able to do this for years.

Lock screen backgrounds on iOS 16 now also integrate a Portrait mode-like effect, where if you have a picture with a prominent subject (think: your face/pet/a building), your iPhone can automatically crop and overlay it over time /clock widget on your lock screen. It creates a depth effect that makes your subject and watch appear a bit more alive/3D. My first impressions are that the algorithm is surprisingly accurate (often to perfection).

The iPhone 15 Pro might be (almost) the perfect iPhone for me (Android and iPhone users), but it still needs a few premium features to be “perfect”…

Sure, the iPhone 15 Pro won’t impress Everyone Android users can throw away their phones and wake up next to a 7-inch iPhone Max. I made tech sound romantic – give me some points! But that’s not quite the idea behind this story.

Well actually in a way it is, but that’s just me… See, I’ve been using an iPhone 8 for a while and just recently bought an iPhone 13 mini. Love the size and wouldn’t trade it for another iPhone… for now.

That being said, the iPhone 13 mini still lacks a number of fantastic features that my Google Pixel 6 Pro has, like a USB-C port and a brilliant periscope zoom camera. That’s how I know I’m not going to switch to an iPhone 14 model…

But if Apple prepares an iPhone 15 Pro with USB-C and a periscope camera… then we can talk!

Features that would make the iPhone 15 Pro the iPhone Android users might have been waiting for…

Other than that, it’s not like USB-C and a periscope camera will make the iPhone 15 Pro the most feature-packed phone ever. I secretly hope for more. Here’s my Three More Things wish list, Tim Cook:

Reverse wireless charging on iPhone 15

RWC could very well come to the iPhone 15 Pro (or even the iPhone 14 Pro), but we don’t have any indication of that eventually happening. Anyway, I leave the house with a dead AirPods/FreeBuds Pro case every once in a while, and when I want to listen to my podcast, the only option is to go home and plug in my earbuds. This seemingly small annoyance can be a mood killer. With my Pixel (e.g. at the gym) I can just slip my wireless charging earbud case on the back of my phone and let the Pixel do the work, so I can use my earbuds for the next few hours before I go home and can fully charge it. Reverse wireless charging is the kind of feature you don’t know you need and it would be great to finally see it on iPhone.

Fast charging on iPhone 15

Speaking of charging, I can’t skip begging Apple to really fast charge the iPhone 15 (but also the iPhone 14 if it’s not too late).

A full charge takes almost 2 hours across the entire iPhone 13 range, and while the “50% in 30 minutes” Apple gives us is pretty satisfying, I keep wishing I had the extreme convenience of my Huawei P30 Pro , which would give me a full charge a day of use after 30 min of mains use. There isn’t much more to say here. You must try to charge fast to appreciate it.

Apple, please give me back my round iPhone

This is a bit of a nuisance on my part, but I’d like my rounded corners back, Apple.

Thanks to the upcoming iPhone 14 Max, the average iPhone size will reach a new peak in 2022. The thing is, the iPhone’s flat design just doesn’t sit well with its increasing size. In fact, even the iPhone 13 mini digs into my hands if I use it for more than a few minutes, and I’m not exaggerating.

I may be in the minority here as everyone seems to love the new slim iPhones, but I tend to prioritize functional design over aesthetics. Handling the iPhone 8 after using the iPhone 13 mini for about a month feels…amazing. That must mean something.

Will the iPhone 15 Pro finally get diehard Android fans to make the big switch?

Now… If I have to look at the current trends in the smartphone market, then the answer to that question is probably…yes! Apple’s smartphone market share is growing, and more than ever, people are choosing to spend their money primarily on flagship phones, which is great news for Cupertino. However, if I have to be sensible, I have to consider that until the iPhone 15 Pro is out, phone, google, Xiaomi & Co would likely have taken Android phones to newer heights, meaning Apple might have a little harder time attracting Android users.

Still, USB-C on iPhone means you can charge all your Apple or non-Apple products with one cable, which might be enough to convince a majority of non-iPhone users (but also older iPhone users). affect phones).

Needless to say, the camera is the focal point of all new flagship phones these days, so I’d bet my lowest dollar that an iPhone 15 Pro with a periscope zoom lens will turn a lot of heads and end up in a lot of pockets. Especially those who have never had a phone with a periscope zoom camera.

The presence of features like reverse wireless charging and proper fast charging would be icing on the cake for the iPhone 15 Pro series. Still, their possible absence certainly doesn’t sound like a deal breaker tomein case I decide to go iPhone full-time and retire my Pixel.

But what about you?
