Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been confirmed to be out later this year, and with a release date looming, more leaks and rumors about Infinity Ward’s upcoming release are surfacing.
A recent report suggests Activision’s official reveal of Modern Warfare 2 is set for June, while a multiplayer beta could potentially arrive in August. However, that doesn’t stop Leaker from revealing some of these details early on.
On May 18th, notable Call of Duty leaker TheMW2Ghost was released tweeted a claim that they’ve seen the upcoming map, which they believe will be used for both Warzone 2 and the rumored DMZ mode for Modern Warfare 2, which leakers suspect is an Escape from Tarkov-inspired survival mode acts. The MW2Ghost shared a simple map layout on Twitterwhich they say was drawn as a remake based on the actual map image.
The leaker’s drawn image doesn’t really offer much detail, but it shows a large river running the entire length of the map, with a lake to the east. There are some padlock and weapon symbols marked on the map, but it is unknown what they will represent specifically for this new title.
On May 17th, YouTuber NerosCinema leaked potential information about Warzone 2 on his YouTube channel, claiming there will be a change in how loadout drops will work for the battle royale sequel. While Loadouts are expected to remain in Warzone 2, NerosCinema believes the method of securing one will change with the introduction of a new feature called Strongholds. According to this leak, loadout drops will be locked behind a Stronghold feature, and players will need to complete a series of tasks or objectives to access their loadout. Normal floor loot will still be available, but the leak suggests that Strongholds will be the only way for players to get their custom loadouts in this Warzone sequel.
So it’s possible that the padlocks on the map image drawn by TheMW2Ghost mark Warzone’s potential Stronghold locations. NerosCinemas leaks were also released confirmed by journalist and leaker Tom Henderson. “I’m not going to beat around the bush, but a lot of it is true,” Henderson said on Twitter. “I’m assuming there’s some discrepancy because the source can’t remember specific details…
I won’t beat around the bush, but a lot of this is true.
I assume there are some discrepancies because the source can’t remember exact details… But yes, it seems leak overload is coming in. https://t.co/MaVyUEWBch— Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) May 17, 2022
Additional leaks from NerosCinemas suggest that the battle royale sequel will be more akin to Black Ops 4’s Blackout than Modern Warfare 2019’s Warzone. The armor will still be available, but the YouTuber’s source says players will need to find a bag to carry it that’s more in line with Blackout’s armor system. Also like Blackout, it is suggested that players have a gear bag with limited inventory space. NerosCinemas suggests that additional weapons can also be stored in the bag, but would take up more inventory space than other items, resulting in a more traditional battle royale inventory management experience.
It’s possible that Warzone 2 will be developed more as a hybrid between Blackout and Warzone, but as always, rumors should be taken with caution and details are subject to change before launch. Here we’re breaking down all the details on Modern Warfare 2, and this highlights everything we know about Warzone 2 so far.
