The Last Of Us PS5/PC Remake confirmed, coming to PS5 in September

The Last of Us remake is officially happening. Following a leak earlier in the day, Summer Game Fest Live brought confirmation that The Last of Us Part 1 will be remade for both PS5 and PC. The reveal came after an early listing of the game was spotted on PlayStation Store, complete with an accompanying trailer. As the rumor suggested, the game is set to release on September 2nd for PS5 (and PC later).

The game was “designed from the ground up for PlayStation 5” and will feature updated and improved AI and 60fps support, among other improvements. It was also revealed that The Last of Us is also coming to PC in addition to a PlayStation 5 release, although the release date wasn’t included in the trailer. However, the developers said it will be coming to PC “shortly” after the PS5 release. The Left Behind DLC is included in The Last of Us Remake, but not in multiplayer–Naughty Dog is working on a standalone Last of Us multiplayer game, it confirmed.

“We’ve implemented modernized gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options into this single-player experience so even more people can enjoy the game,” Naughty Dog said in a blog post. “Effects, exploration, and combat have all been improved. Leveraging the PS5’s powerful hardware, we’ve also implemented 3D audio, haptics, and adaptive triggers. Both returning fans and new players will have the opportunity to experience both The Last of Us Part I and its prequel Left Behind in a whole new way.”

This continues PlayStation’s ongoing trend of bringing some of its biggest exclusive titles to PC, allowing a wider audience to experience its narrative-driven titles.

Set in post-apocalyptic America, The Last of Us follows a man named Joel and his hot-tempered, daughter-like companion Ellie as they traverse the country in search of a cure for the fungal outbreak that is ravaging the world. The game received critical acclaim upon its release in 2013. GameSpot’s The Last of Us review called it “a unique adventure that faces mankind’s demise and doesn’t blink.”

Sony released a Last of Us Remastered version of the game in 2014. Naughty Dog’s other upcoming projects include the aforementioned Last of Us multiplayer game and something new from director Neil Druckmann.
