While it hasn’t been announced in any official capacity, rumors of an alleged remake of The last of us. Rumors have speculated about its release window, as well as the inclusion and reprisals of a multiplayer factions mode. Of course, the remake’s existence isn’t confirmed yet, but there are a number of things to consider if it ends up being true.
Most importantly, it must be remembered that it will be billed as a remake, not another remaster The last of us Already given in the transition from PS3 to PS4, scenes will likely be altered to angle perspectives and situations differently. One reason Naughty Dog might want for a remake, aside from capitalizing on its most popular franchise, is to colorize characters and sequences differently to make them fit The last of us“ overarching narrative.

How Joel is portrayed in the rumored remake will be interesting
One of the most important but inevitable changes The last of us‘ Remake must deal with the murder of Jerry Anderson. Flashbacks in The Last of Us 2 depicts Jerry’s death and, loosely paraphrasing his canon, clearly portrays Jerry as the surgeon that players must kill in order to recover Ellie. meanwhile in The last of usthe character who was supposed to be Jerry doesn’t look like Jerry at all The Last of Us 2.
This is likely because Naughty Dog didn’t think far enough ahead during development of the first game to decide that this particular surgeon’s death would be as momentous and meaningful as it was. While undeserved, the vitriol lingering around The Last of Us 2 concerns the death of Joel Miller.
Since Joel is a character that players could empathize with after learning his perspective and being by his side for most of the original game, fans were understandably upset when the character was suddenly killed off by a new face in the franchise, that the players haven’t been able to empathize with yet. However, over time, players learn Abby’s perspective and her desire to kill Joel is as reasonable as any of the choices Joel had to make in the original game.
It will be interesting to see how the characters are colored in relation to their fates and choices The Last of Us 2. Naughty Dog may decide to further double down on its portrayal of Joel as a ruthless killer and show sequences from his past showing him and Tommy torturing bandits.
Either way, this is a decision Naughty Dog will make, and it’s bound to create even more controversy about Joel if he’s portrayed in a new light, even if it’s a more accurate representation of what players couldn’t readily see . Joel is a decent man from the right perspective, but that’s not the character’s only perspective, and which perspective Naughty Dog will lean into remains to be seen.

HBO’s The Last of Us series could technically qualify as the second remake
Oddly enough, it seems so The last of us‘ Live-action HBO series also acts as a sort of remake of the original episode. Set photos have featured images of Boston’s streets with derelict vehicles sprouting overgrowth, as well as specific images depicting iconic moments and locations The last of us.
It’s not clear how faithfully HBO plans to make its live-action adaptation, but some hints have suggested it will stray a little further from the story fans are familiar with. New scenes can shed light on immature relationships like Bill and Frank’s.
This would also help legitimize it in the eyes of fans who may find a remake redundant. In fact, if it were a shot-for-shot recreation of the original, it could feel repetitive. If the remake of The last of us comes out sometime this year, a recent rumor suggests, the HBO series is likely to come out much later. This could give fans ample time to catch up on the story with a visual and gameplay overhaul on next-gen consoles, and it could be interesting to see if the HBO series decides to follow the story path of the original to follow The last of us or its reissue.
The last of us A remake for PS5 is rumored to be in development.
