Where to see and what to expect

And if you think about it, it’s been a whole two months since the sentence jumped across a stage in curly script: “WORLD PREMIERE”. That changes this afternoon with the opening live stream of Gamescom.

In recent years, Gamescom’s kickoff event, officially called Opening Night Live, has grown into one of the big three annual video game marketing hoorays. It is designed to herald Gamescom, a week-long gaming and Koelsch conference held annually in Cologne, Germany. As in previous years, Opening Night Live will be hosted by Geoff “World Premiere” Keighley

Where to watch Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022?

Gamescom Opening Night Live will be officially broadcast on Keighley’s The Game Awards channels. The event starts at 2:12:00 a.m. ET and lasts approximately two hours. You can stream it live Pull out or youtube:

What to expect from Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022

Keighley said more than 30 games will be shown during Opening Night Live. These events always have some surprises that are totally out of the left area (my fingers are stuck in a crossed position, looking out for Kirby Airride 2) mixed with updates for previously announced games. Ahead of the event, a number of publishers and developers have confirmed showings during the event.

The big headliner of Gamescom is The Callisto Protocola sci-fi horror game that aims to pick up on the mantle cleared by Empty room (appropriate to see as a development Callisto is directed by Empty room Creator Glen Schofield). The Callisto Protocol made a grand entrance during the non-E3 season this year, where footage impressed fans of the genre. What follows Keighley called “new” gameplay during today’s Gamescom. The game is due out on December 2, 2022 for consoles and PC.

Sega will also show more footage from Sonic Frontiersits forthcoming open world sound Game that was widely criticized in a preview earlier this summer. sound historically has a breezy franchise about going as fast as you can, all fast guitar riffs and bright colors. That it goes the lonely, melancholic way Zelda: BotW has proved stunning, to say the least, although perhaps new footage today might change minds.

Warner Bros. will debut Another trailer for Gotham Knights. Some people are skeptical about the open world elements. Others (hi) are intrigued by the muscular combat and support for co-op. Either way, at this point Gotham Knights has more or less happened his “just give it meeeeee” phase.

You can also safely expect to see:

  • The first game for Telltales The wide, a narrative game based on Amazon’s adaptation of James SA Corey’s sci-fi novel series. (The wide ended its sixth and supposedly final season earlier this year on one hell of a cliffhanger.)
  • lies of Pthe Soulslike is based on Pinocchio das looks a lot worse than it may be.
  • Goat Simulator 3whose trailer was made at the Summer Game Fest think every few seconds that a new one dead island came.
  • high in lifea shooter from the makers of, uh, Rick and Morty. Originally slated for the fall, developer Squanch Games recently announced delayed it until December.
  • Devolver will show more of this Return to Monkey Island; Backlash to the game’s showing earlier this summer spurred a wave of raw, cruel, and unnecessary poison to its creator, Ron Gilbert.

Then there are the surprises. transmission bit teased around border areas. Best bets are a gameplay reveal for the Stories from the Borderlands Consequence planned for this year, but it could also be the trailer for the upcoming movie starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. (Earlier this year, Lionsgate footage aired behind closed doors at CinemaCon.) In a shot of the moon it will be a really full-fledged expansion for this year’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. The spinoff has received four additional DLC packs since its launch in March. fans say they delivered too little compared to the previous DLC border areas Games – especially since they’re roughly the same price.

The lineup isn’t quite as bright as that of Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards (or, over the years, an actual E3). But you never know! After all, developer Volition made its debut during last year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live Saints Row make new. That’s great.

For Xbox, a lot depends on the big non-E3 press conference. For now, after a series of notable delays, the mega-publisher’s 2022 is bereft of major exclusives. In addition to the requisite announcements of games coming to Game Pass and announcements about more devices you can stream those games on, Xbox may actually be sharing some actual video game news.

where to see

The event begins Sunday, June 12 at 1:00 p.m. ET. You can stream them on Xbox youtube and Pull out Channels. If you prefer to see it with compressions so strong it looks like you are If you look through a kaleidoscope, it will flow on too Twitter. Bethesda will also be co-streaming on his youtube and Pull out Channels. Aaron Greenberg from Xbox said it will run for 95 minutes.

Xbox will follow the showcase with an “extended” show on Tuesday, June 14 at 1:00pm ET. This stream will not contain any new announcements, but will contain more details about the games that will be shown during the main event.

What to expect

Ahead of Thursday’s Summer Game Fest kickoff event, publishers and developers — in an act of marketing for even more marketing — openly said if their games would show up during the show; few surprises there. Many revelations during Sony’s big State of Play showcase had been rumored in advance; There are a few surprises there too. However, the Xbox event is more of a mystery.

It’s a pretty safe bet that something anythingincluding Halo infinity will appear. gloriole is Xbox Mario. And right now, the latest iteration is the multiplayer shooter, which also happens to be Microsoft’s big live service game du jour, with a regular series of updates and a slew of previously announced additions planned for future updates. Halo infinity It’s still missing multiplayer features – including support for a cooperative campaign, as well as creative Forge mode for building levels – that were included in previous games that were promised to release sometime this year. Microsoft last year trademark protected “The Endless,” an obvious reference to events that happen at the end infinity‘s campaign, setting a possible expansion in motion. The Studio Certain Affinity is also work on the game in an immeasurable capacity; Some fans believe it is developing a battle royale mode.

Fans are also somehow convinced Banjo Kazooie Revival is on the way. Through achievements, some people discovered Xbox boss Phil Spencer Playing the Xbox 360 version of Banjo Kazooie earlier this month. (Some say it’s a character; others say he’s just playing a game he enjoys.) Yes, that’s the result of about three degrees of hearsay, but claimed one developer that something has to do with it Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter is on the way. spencer previously told kotaku that any revival of the series is a call out to original developer Rare, which is now an Xbox studio.

Speaking of Rare, the venerable studio has another game in the works that was only shown in screenshots and brief theatrical trailers: Always wild. Last June, after Always wild was absent from Xbox’s E3 presence, VGC reported first that the game was rebooted internally and is now targeting a 2024 release. Maybe this year’s non-E3 show is when we finally find out about their deal?

The Xbox roster has a number of other announced titles in the works. Many were teased in the process last year’s Xbox E3 Showcase In the meantime, no information has been released. A selection:

  • The Outer WorldsObsidian’s first-person sci-fi RPG that feels Stand out in space, gets a sequel.
  • Obsidian is also developing a first-party fantasy RPG called confesses.
  • The horror game contempt, inspired by the works of HR Giger, has been postponed a number of times. It is currently slated for a wide release in October 2022 on Xbox and PC.
  • The makers of just cause develop contrabanda co-op game set in the 70’s.
  • Atomic Heart is a different game like the modern one Stand outs, set in an alternate timeline version of the Soviet Union where the robotics industry has proliferated. it looks crazy.
  • Somerville is a limbo– like running away from aliens in the company of a dog.
  • Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, GSC Game World delayed its apocalyptic shooter STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl from April 28 to December 8, 2022.

Two long-dormant Xbox series are also being revived. The Initiative, a new studio, is working on a reboot of Perfectly dark. Playground Games who just released the awesome ForzaHorizon 5 in November, has another entry in the fable Series of fantasy roleplaying games on the horizon. It is unclear whether any of these games will be shown or not. (For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t be surprised if Playground gave some details about a ForzaHorizon 5 Extension. Its predecessor, 2018 ForzaHorizon 4saw that lucky island DLC just a few months after the release of the main game.)

But the big one — Microsoft’s only first-party studio sharing title billing with Xbox — is Bethesda. Last month, Bethesda delayed its two biggest upcoming games: vampire shooters redfalldeveloped by prey Studio arcane and open world sandwich hunt RPG starfield. (kotaku recently reported that Bethesda is no stranger to crunch and overhaul with development Fallout 76 a painstaking process in particular.) Originally slated for a November 11, 2022 release, starfield is now scheduled for release in the first half of 2023. However, it’s been in the works for years, and to date, Bethesda has only stated…Eight full seconds of gameplay footage.

Actually you know what? Let’s be honest. We don’t see starfield playing style. Bethesda is likely to be announcing another one right now Skyrim port instead.

With E3 2022 cancelled, there is a vacuum at the heart of video game marketing season. Many eyes are open Summer Game Festival for being both the longest and widest presser on the horizon. But the host, Geoff Keighley, recently saw fit to tone down expectations ahead of the show, saying it won’t be flush with the “world premieres” for which its events have become known.

Now in its third year, Summer Game Fest is both a unique event (a showcase featuring trailers from a variety of video game publishers) and a promotional tool (a logo featured on every piece of video marketing from Memorial Day through Labor Day you can see ). Essentially, it’s a way for Keighley to cement his lifelong tenure as the gaming god of hype. But basically “Summer Game Fest” – at least here – refers to the display case.

where to see

Summer Game Fest begins Thursday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. ET. And if we could give me and my colleagues a “RIP” that would be great: A calendar entry suggests that it will run for three hours. (event of the last year ran for three and a half, but that included the hour-long indie showcase Day of the Devs.) You can stream the Summer Game Fest on youtube, Pull outand Twitter. Or if you Yes, really Want to see Kaiju Geoff, it will be broadcast IMAX theaters in a few dozen cities throughout the country.

What to expect

During a Twitter Space held over the weekend per one VGC Transcripting Keighley went into full expectation management mode and said the show will mostly focus on games that have already been revealed. “We’re doing some good stuff for you, but definitely meeting your expectations in terms of the megaton shocks you’re in for,” he said. “We have a lot of good stuff to show you, but buyers are wary of some of the crazy rumors I see out there in terms of things people are expecting to be announced.”

A Promotional Sizzle Roll– set to a cinematic remix of Halsey’s “Young God” – gave a glimpse of a number of games that are forthcoming, have recently been released, and will, in a way, show up. And a handful of publishers have already announced which of their titles will be released. Among other games, you can expect the following:

  • LeaveSquare Enix’s action-RPG, due out in October for PS5 and PC.
  • Sonic Frontierswhich is supposed to be Sonic breath of the wild but really only looks like an unreal tech demo.
  • Horizon forbidden west. The open-world game has been available on PlayStation for months and has received several major updates, so maybe this heralds an expansion?
  • That limbo-inspired Planet of Lana will have a gameplay reveal.
  • The tactical game Marvel’s Midnight Sunwhich was originally slated for a Spring 2022 release but has since pushed into the fall. It currently has no release date.
  • Developer Infinity Ward shows the first level out Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign.
  • More fun from The Callisto Protocolwho meanwhile had a short spot Sony’s non-E3 State of Play event.
  • The Lord of the Rings: Golluman adventure game scheduled for September 1st, exactly one day before the Amazon LotR premiere of the show.
  • Gotham Knights. Last month developer WB Games released a 13-minute gameplay video alongside an announcement that the previous generation versions have been scrapped.
  • The sizzle reel featured a split-second clip starfieldalthough I imagine Microsoft will save the meat of Bethesda’s RPG for Sunday’s Xbox marquee event.
  • Also, apparently some game called Dwayne The Rock Johnson will be there? No idea what this is about, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the gameplay involved lifting weights at dawn, co-producing about half of Hollywood’s blockbuster production, and Capitalizing on America’s great political divide for a possible run as president one day.

Something you can hope for (but not hold your breath for).

Yes, everyone in the world wants news about it God of War Ragnarok, the sequel to the 2018 action series reboot from Santa Monica Studio. For one thing, Sony already had its big PlayStation event of the season (focused on third-party games, but still). Second, in recent years Sony has moved to revealing information about its first-party edition via dedicated livestreams with shorter durations. So sure, it might show up, but don’t get your hopes up too much.

That starfield, Bethesda’s first sprawling RPG in 10,000 years, is odd among the teases for Summer Game Fest. Though it was slated for a November 11, 2022 release date, Bethesda recently delayed starfield it through the first half of 2023. You’d think Microsoft would be sticking with all of its first-party blockbusters for its own big presser scheduled for Sunday afternoon. But I suppose with more than two dozen first-party studios under its roof, Xbox probably has plenty of other things to show – possibly even some unannounced games – that it can bring its largest known crowd to Summer Game Fest with little effort could lose.

EA is one of the partner publishers of Summer Game Fest, so some of the games in its pipeline –how skate 4– could possibly occur. Notably, some big publishers that usually make a big showing during the E3 season, including Nintendo and Ubisoft, aren’t on the list of partners. A representative of Ubisoft said axios it’ll eschew Summer Game Fest in favor of something “later this year.” Nintendo, meanwhile, was radio silent.
